I don’t understand this place, to whoever owns it you could be making a lot more money if you had a manager or some slightly attentive staff? Food was really good but never was my water refilled or asked if I wanted another drink. This was a Saturday lunch and only five tables full and it had little no service for any table that I could see. The couple next to us left after they sat in front of their empty oyster shells for an hour, the service people just never came back to them. Their second course was delivered. I can’t even fathom what it would be like if the place was full. My inner Gordon Ramsay was flipping out.

The Elm recently updated its menu and it is terrific! Love the more casual vibe, great drinks, pizza and pasta. So, I brought friends and made my 3rd reservation in 10 days! But, this Saturday, I needed to change the time of my reservation. I called twice and left messages and emailed. Upon arrival at the new time, we were met and told we could not be seated. They were booked. I asked, why they didn’t call us back, he said “they were too busy”. Not only is this a rude answer, but it was delivered without any apology or suggestion that we sit at the bar (which was empty). Maybe the phone recording shouldn’t say “leave a message”.
I urge the owners to now work on their hospitality and front-of- the-house skills to go along with the new Elm restaurant.

I found this little gem a few weeks ago and returned today. It doesn’t look like much on the outside but the food is wonderful, the cocktails are strong, and the barstools are comfortable. If you go, try the steak – it was fantastic.

Really excellent dinner at The Elm. They know what they’re doing. Hanger steak, chicken karaage, crispy polenta, all delicious and top-tier. Sweet staff and lovely atmosphere. Worth a visit or two or three.

An absolute must if you are in Great Barrington!

First of all, I loved the creative entry way. The inside is a perfect combination of class and refinement yet comfortable and welcoming. Vibes are fun and cozy at the bar but also very elegant in the dining area. Works for either for a big celebration or just a good time out.

The food was a showstopper. Everything we had was beautifully presented and delicious. It is obvious that there is time and care taken into the execution of each dish.

Oysters were some of the best I’ve ever had. Jonah crab was delicious and creative! Duck was amazing and had interesting additions (pickled strawberries! So good!). Beautifully presented octopus. Fresh asparagus salad. The decadent chocolate cake for dessert really sealed the deal.

The price point is also very reasonable for the level of dining and quality of food that this place has to offer!

Can’t forget to mention how lovely the staff was. They were so kind and went above and beyond for us. Looking forward to returning soon.

Just went in to see about a table without a reservation. The charmless man at the front answered as if our request was a personal affront. Some people just shouldn’t be in hospitality. This would be a one star review but the pizza from next door is good. Whoever owns this place needs to know that this is a small town and people talk. And you won’t be here long if you only rely on tourists for business. They ought to consider giving their staff a serious pep talk.

This is by far the best restaurant in Great Barrington. Amazing homemade pasta and the crispy chicken is delicious, not to mention the brick oven pizza!

This was our first visit to Great Barrington and we were excited to eat at The Elm. The atmosphere was great and the staff were lovely. They were already out of fresh pasta which was disappointing but not a deal breaker because the other items on the menu sounded amazing. They were also out of the beer we had wanted on tap. We had oysters which were absolutely delicious! I had the gorgonzola burger and my husband had the cheddar burger. They looked fantastic but had so much salt they were almost inedible. Same with the fries. It was really disappointing, especially for the $30 price tag. Our friend had the steak with chimichurri. The steak was perfectly cooked but salty and the chimichurri was bland. Overall a less than stellar experience. Perhaps this was an off night or the regular chef was on vacation but I would not go back.
