I am a lover of diners, having eaten at these affordable and family-friendly establishments across the United States, and The Dining Car did not disappoint. The vintage building and extensive menu provides the taste of diners from the 1950s for an affordable price. This is a great stop for Philly cheesesteaks and chicken croquettes at the end of a history-filled day. My one regret is that I left just before the neon lights came on. I highly recommend this place as a dining option and wish it was located closer to me!

I have dined here several times and the French toast is great. I visited yesterday 3 different staff members said someone will be right with you. I left without ordering . There was no wait to be seated yet there was no staff member to take a order?

What truly sets The Dining Car apart, though, is the dedicated staff. Many of the servers have been with the restaurant for years, and their genuine friendliness and professionalism add a personal touch to each visit. They take the time to remember regular customers’ preferences and ensure everyone feels welcome, creating a sense of community that makes you want to return again and again.
The combination of homemade comfort food and a long-serving, loyal staff makes The Dining Car a rare find in today’s fast-paced world. It’s not just a meal here—it’s an experience filled with warmth, tradition, and heartfelt service. Perfect for anyone looking for a comforting and memorable dining experience.

The best diner in NE Philly. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all classic diner favorites are available all day.
Servers are friendly and menu knowledgeable. Plenty of parking.

We had a great time with the Vogt senior. The staff there was very nice and the food was great. I tried the stuff chicken which was plenty. We all enjoyed it.

This spot was ok..wasn’t a big fan of their food & flavors. The burger tasted bland & the bread is too big for it. My bf got the turkey sandwich with gravy , tasted good but was too messy. You’re literally just touching the gravy with all your fingers because they pour it on top instead of serving it in the side. Also I think their prices are a bit over the top for basic food. Paid $60 just for this. In my opinion not worth it. Overall was an ok experience & staff was very nice.

Usually, we are fans of diner breakfast experience, but this one was a huge mistake!
I wouldn’t recommend it.
First service, waitress was absolutely not attentive to my order, she was super slow, and I never received my coffee refill, nor we were asked if evth was okay.
Second, food taste and quality. Our order took forever to be delivered to our table. Food was tasteless and absolutely terrible. I quite honestly don’t remember the last time I had such a bad breakfast.
We ended up paying $43 bill and leaving hungry. Terrible experience.

The service was outstanding, and the food was delicious. We would definitely recommend it and would love to come back if we get the chance!

Visit to The Dining Car
It’s a Saturday so it is very busy. The hostess appeared frustrated. The kitchen was behind and we had to wait a bit longer for a booth. Mina waited on us today. She is very sweet , polite, & patient.
We ordered diner coffee (1) the black cups were different and old. Lemon was old and the dish the bowl they gave it in was dirty with some green food still on it. We switched 3 sugar jars because they had foreign objects or dirty rocks in them.
We ordered Bacon Fried Egg & Cheese on Rye. (2) and Grits, Fried Egg and Toast (1). We would have given it a score higher if the food was not served to us cold!! The Apple Pie A La Mode was very BLAND (1). But may be perfect for someone may be Diabetic. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, check them out. Hopefully you don’t have the same experience we had.
