Usually, we are fans of diner breakfast experience, but this one was a huge mistake!

This is one of the highest rated diners in Philly so we decided to visit. The diner has a bakery attached so you can pick up sweets without having to enter through or wait in the diner which is a less common setup and much appreciated. We were seated really quickly by the hostess who was really upbeat (didn’t catch her name). Our server, Courtney, was very attentive and friendly. Both the hostess and server made up for the initial awkwardness of walking into establishments in this part of Philly (which we refer to as Trump town) if you’re a Black person. This time, it wasn’t the business or the employees and solely the patrons. The food was above diner standards and they had a variety of choices you don’t typically see like the house made apple bread stuffed French toast.

Such a great diner! We had the potato pancakes, fabulous turkey sausage, a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese & scrapple. So delicious! The coffee is excellent and the service is attentive but not annoying. Can’t wait to come back again.

Great local diner experience. Tasty food. I had eggs with pork roll and potato pancakes. Excellent. Stop by the bakery. The Jewish apple cake is delicious.

My mom, who passed away in 2019, grew up in the Northeast and always talked about coming to The Dining Car. She used to visit on her own and with HER mother! For whatever reason I had never eaten here…though signs point to me being a stubborn South Philly girl who never leaves her neighborhood. But that’s another story…

Worked here and went here as customer since I moved to Mayfair in 2008. Everything here is awful. It is no longer the place it used to be and the customers/staff all say it. The owners have no idea what they are doing and will never be able to regain the economy nor the respect it once earned. The pandemic has showed this places true colors and it deserves to be shut down. Nothing more to be said.

Used to be a lot better way before the pandemic.

Great place… Great food… Great service… And one of the few remaining authentic, privately owned American diners in Philadelphia. So nice to still have a good old-fashioned diner here that’s not part of that “other” diner chain that takes over long-established diners and ruins them. Love the experienced, great-personality staff that knows customer service. The only complaint I have is the coffee isn’t very good. The cinnamon rolls are insanely good. Pancakes are huge. Turkey is very good. French toast is amazing. I love this place and hope they never sell out!

Cool lil down home diner… The service was great, there was no wait and the food came out hot and quickly. The Fancy French Toast was sooo good. Thick bread with a hint of sugar. Soft in the middle and crisp on the sides… Sheesh.
