The positives: the staff was great, the nachos were amazing, the huckleberry ice cream was surprisingly good, and the atmosphere was awesome – very chill and laid back.
The negatives: the $6 margaritas are not freshly made it was straight from a premix. Maybe I should have known based on the price, but it’s definitely not what I expected from a bar. The lime one was decent, but the strawberry was so terrible I ended up just shooting back so I wouldn’t have to taste it. The cardamom pineapple cake i had didn’t have a very good crumb and was kind of cornbread-y. The parmesan garlic wings weren’t terrible, but they weren’t what my daughter was expecting due to the strong smoky flavor so we didn’t end up eating them.
was welcome, which was a plus!!
One of the best middle sized live music venues in the hills with acts every weekend along with other activities thruout the week.
Definitely worth the trip.
The food was really good (I got ribs) and was served from the side building after ordering from the bar. The interior venue space is large and well-designed. They have tables near the bar with pool tables and a few high-tops but the stage is surrounded by couches. I absolutely LOVED this. Coffeehouse vibes but with a prairie spin.
I get the feeling that this place functions as kind of a town hall. I feel like we met a good cross-section of the town while we were there. I cannot speak highly enough of those we met here. It was truly the perfect welcome to the Black Hills.
My only regret about my time in Custer is that we did not spend more time here. The bar staff was fantastic, the food was great, and the locals were friendly. The Beacon has a good mix of locals and tourists, especially in the later hours. DO NOT MISS this place. I am not sure if I will ever be back to Custer, but if I do, I hope I can stop by and have a drink. Thanks for the memories!
The food provided was a salad, brown beans, pulled pork, grilled chicken, and 2 flavors. I’m sure i forgot something. Everything was delicious.
