We came to the Dark Saffron after reading other reviews on here. We spent a lovely evening, the food was delicious, large portions. Staff were attentive and very welcoming. Would recommend to others and would return again if we were back in the area.

We were initially given a drinks menu only when we arrived, which felt unusual.
After ordering drinks, we were then presented with a set menu. This felt quite misleading, as we likely would have reconsidered staying had we seen that menu first.
Once the waiter overheard me mentioning this, he did kindly bring over the standard menu.

The restaurant describes itself as “fine dining,” but unfortunately there were several elements that did not reflect that standard.
The cutlery did not match, the napkins were cheap paper rather than linen, the restaurant itself was cold, and the toilets were located outside the main dining area in a cold hallway.
The owner or manager appeared to be running the floor in tracksuit bottoms, which did not align with the fine dining image being presented.

I was still prepared to overlook these issues if the food had been exceptional.
Sadly, it was not. In fact, both my husband and I agreed it was the worst Indian meal we have had.
The dishes were greasy with unusual flavours that didn’t work. It felt as though the restaurant was attempting to be innovative without the necessary execution or quality ingredients.
The rice in particular tasted and looked as though it may have been packet-prepared.
The only positive was our waiter, who was pleasant, friendly and professional throughout.

A really lovely place with delicious food. Very friendly staff, all happy to help. They went above and beyond with recommendations and help to ensure I had the best experience.

The poppadums, okra and garlic mushrooms were delicious. The Butter Mango vegetable curry was so good too – it tasted better than it looked from my rubbish photo!

Me and my family have recently eaten at the Crown and Cinnamon twice: in the restaurant and a takeaway. Both times the food was superb. It was the first time we have eaten there and I think we’ve found a new favourite Indian restaurant in New Milton. The curries are particularly good and feel a little more traditional than the curries you can get at other restaurants; they certainly have more flavour. The meat is also so tender and brilliantly done. We felt very welcome when we ate in and they treated us brilliantly. Everyone was very polite and ensured we had a fantastic time. It was my daughter’s birthday and they made sure she had a wonderful meal. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated but the atmosphere was a little muted on a Wednesday evening.

I recently visited an Indian restaurant that truly impressed me, especially with its lamb steak. The dish was exceptional – the lamb was perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and full of flavor. The marination was spot-on, with the spices balanced perfectly, allowing the richness of the lamb to shine through. Each bite was a delightful combination of juiciness and smokiness, creating an unforgettable experience. Paired with aromatic rice and naan, it was a meal worth savoring. The ambiance of the restaurant was also warm and inviting, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. Highly recommend trying the lamb steak if you visit!

Lovely food and great service, staff where so helpful, offering a large selection on their menu.
Massive amount of food for a great price, so much food that we then took half our meal home for dinner tomorrow!
Cannot recommend the restaurant enough

We had a great first time meal at the Dark Saffron. Very attentive staff and our host was working hard to provide a first class service. We will be back as it was world class.

Hidden gem in New Milton: our first visit to this restaurant which is really well appointed and serves a very varied menu to an excellent level of both presentation and taste. A very enjoyable experience which we will certainly be repeating. Thank you Mac for great food and a great place. See you again soon! Nick

I didn’t like this restaurant. It wasn’t like a proper restaurant more like a make do place. The atmosphere and service was poor. The waiter asked us what part of London we were from, he said we had come from a good expensive area,. When we asked about the menu the waiter / owner sad that there was no rice with the meals and that there were so called errors on the menu. It was as if he was making it up as he went along. I’m sure it’s because we came from a good area he wanted to rip us off. My friends were served very expensive wine which was in fact corked and smelt of strong vinegar. My mains was awful only 2 very gristly lamb chops which were all fat and gristle. I had to tell the waiter I couldn’t eat them as they were inedible. When I asked him to help me it took a long time for him to come over he shouted across the room saying that he was talking to other customers so rude, obnoxious and unprofessional. When he did eventually came over I explained to him about my food he asked me if he could cook me a curry instead of lamb chops because they take too long to cook. Ridiculous. I said I would rather wait in the end it came out and was ok the at least this time it was edible. But it’s very expensive and a real rip restaurant, terrible value for money more like a small starter than a main meal!. It cost me £15 ;just for 2 little chops with a bit of sauce and salad! Rice £5 and drink £4′. I would definitely never go back to this restaurant even if you paid me and would advise others to avoid like the plague!. Before and after meal was changed photos before the two gistly chops the 2nd the better chops just to show the value!.
