The main issue was coffees being served lukewarm. When coffees start from £4 and upwards, temperature should really be spot on.
I had two personal observations. Firstly, I’ve visited twice in the past four days and the daily special was the same both times. That didn’t tempt me, as I wasn’t sure how fresh the cod would have been by the second visit. Secondly, on both occasions the jumbo fish supper wasn’t available by 6 pm. Don’t get me wrong—the regular portion is more than big enough—but I fancied the challenge.
That said, don’t let this deter you. The service and food quality were excellent. Easily the best tartare sauce I’ve had, and when I asked for the ice cream on my sticky toffee pudding to be replaced with clotted cream, it was done without any issue.
Overall, a great experience and somewhere I’d happily return to.
We told the waiter and he said that he was going to inform the kitchen but 1 second later he was in another table taking orders. I wanted to have a feedback at least…
We ordered the platter and the food was good. Whatever they’re putting on the lobster is unreal. The monkfish was great, and the mussels were tasty too, though a bit on the oily side. I think I would have preferred them in a cream sauce rather than an oily broth, but they were still delicious. The crab was good as well. You get crab on the side which is great and they also include a deep fried soft shell crab. A bite or two of that is lovely, but after a while it felt a bit too heavy. Perhaps it could be served differently instead of being fully coated in batter and oil. For me it leaned towards oil overload, but that’s just personal preference. Chips were decent, and we also had the Burrata, which was very nice.
Overall everything was very tasty the staff were wonderful and the setting is great. Maybe some less oily options added as the menu develops and adjusts would be good.
The fish and chips are nothing short of exceptional. The haddock is fresh—not frozen at sea—and of noticeably premium quality. The batter is outstanding: light, crisp, and it stays crunchy right through to the last bite. The chips are equally excellent, perfectly cooked and full of flavour.
Honestly, this place deserves national recognition. If they entered the National Fish & Chip Awards, I’m confident they’d have a real chance at winning.
I won’t name other establishments, as there are many good ones, but I can say this: it’s better than any other fish and chips I’ve had in Edinburgh, and even rivals the most famous spots in Whitby as just one example.
Beyond the food, the restaurant itself is beautifully fitted out, with a welcoming atmosphere and attentive, friendly staff. While there are plenty of tempting seafood options on the menu, it’s the fish and chips that will keep me coming back.
A truly impressive experience—well done, and keep up the fantastic work.
15/01/26 another great service and great food
From the moment we arrived, the front-of-house service was exceptional.
The team were attentive without being intrusive, regularly checking in on us and making sure everything was perfect.
A great effort all round.
Being in the military, I’m all about high standards — and this place absolutely delivered.
The food was outstanding from start to finish.
Our starters and mains were packed with flavour, beautifully cooked, and presented beautifully on the plate.
You can really see the care and attention that goes into every dish.
The cocktails were excellent as well — expertly made and thoroughly enjoyed.
We loved the open kitchen concept, being able to see the chefs hard at work.
It adds to the atmosphere and shows the pride they take in what they do.
This place is worth every penny.
Most importantly, my wife was very happy — and as they say, happy wife, happy life
P.S. Pay the service charge — they absolutely deserve it.
