Came back, different staff and…was pleasantly surprised. Food was good, atmosphere fun, and reasonably priced drinks. Came back a couple of days later! New fave bar in town!
Venue is convenient as we was going to the theatre. Book ahead if you are a small group as we had to pre order. The atmosphere is busy but enjoyable. I would go here again.
There were people sitting at the table that had been reserved for us. It was very cramped and crowded, I almost got knocked over by 4 other customers while trying to walk through. There was a big queue to order. We decided not to stay. When I told the waitress we had decided to leave she asked why and when I told her it wasn’t for us, almost got knocked over by other customers and there wasn’t much I could even drink she stated to state the alcoholic drinks they had to offer…im heavily pregnant and it was quite obvious I am. This kind of atmosphere would be great for an evening but not a lunch and it really wasn’t what advertising had made it seem. Such a shame.
We were really pleased to see how many vegan and vegetarian options were on offer. Some of their listed meat options could be made vegetarian which was a nice touch and gave much more choice than other establishments. We had the Facon dog and it was delicious! I think the sausage itself was maybe a tiny bit overdone, but the flavours were awesome. The chips were perfectly crispy, some of the nicest I’ve had to be honest and we left feeling rather impressed. The staff checked on us throughout our meal and service was quick despite being busier.
We’d definitely go back.
I’ve been to the cow shed for food and drinks a few times before – I work in town and sometimes come in for drinks or food – and it’s always been nice. No issues with food or service before this.
I went there a couple of days ago (23/11/25) at around 4pm and ordered the cow shed burger. Again food was nice, service and atmosphere was good. About 4 hours later I started feeling unwell, and an hour after that I started vomiting every hour for the next 10 hours, and having diarrhea for the next 2 days. I didn’t feel lucid and had a fever for also about 2 days. I was close to going to hospital for extreme dehydration.
I have a strong suspicion that it was the cow shed which gave me food poisoning because it was the only meal I’d eaten within 24 hours before getting ill (I had other stuff to eat within that timeframe i.e. pre-packaged snacks [crisps, chocolate], but no meals).
The previous day was the same, and the only meal I ate was a Tesco ready meal for lunch which was in-date, and heated for the recommended time in the oven (although most of their ready meals are pre-cooked anyway – which this one was).
Side note: It’s often contaminated vegetables (e.g. lettuce in the burger) which cause food poisoning as opposed to undercooked beef. Obviously not sure what was specifically the cause in the meal, but I’d assume it was that.
My girlfriend called the cow shed the next day with intentions of letting them know so that others could hopefully avoid the same thing. It was not her intention to accuse the restaurant, but it seemed that the staff member that answered took it that way.
I probably wouldn’t have left this review if they weren’t dismissive over the phone, however this experience has really negatively affected me, so I just want people to avoid going through what I have. At the time of writing I’ve just started eating solids again and I’ve had to take 4 days off work.
For legal reasons, I’m not saying that the cow shed definitely gave me food poisoning, but I do have a strong suspicion because of the circumstances.
