Good small cozy restaurant. I like the vibes. I stopped on highway going to Chicago to enjoy breakfast.

I ordered biscuits and gravy. I got absolutely no sausage in my sausage gravy. When I asked the young man when I was checking out if this was how they normally serve biscuits and gravy he didn’t know. When I asked the server, she said it was late in the morning and they must have hit the dregs. When I said they shouldn’t have served that to me she could have cared less. When I said I shouldn’t have to pay for what I didn’t get she again didn’t care less. I travel this way often and I will never stop there again. I try to frequent what appears to be a community / family owned businesses. Next time I’ll hit the Denny’s or IHOP

I had Jaime’s omlette, which had onion, sausage and cheese with eggs. I enjoyed it and was full when I was finished. Their coffee was great. My son had pancakes, so I tried half of one and enjoyed it also. The place was packed because it was Valentine’s Day morning which I enjoy because it confirms everyone likes the food.

Had a late lunch at The Country Cafe in Lafayette on a Monday, and it totally hit the spot. Walked in, got seated right away—no wait at all. My server was right there with a smile, took my drink order fast, and handed me a menu without any delay. Friendly, efficient, and exactly the kind of service you hope for when you’re just looking for a good meal without the fuss.
I went with the chicken fried steak, and I’ve gotta say—it didn’t disappoint one bit. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the breading had that perfect golden crunch. They ladled on just the right amount of gravy—flavorful and smooth without overpowering the dish. You could tell it was made fresh and with care, not just reheated from a freezer bag.
The whole place felt clean and relaxed, like a diner that’s been quietly keeping locals fed for years. Ten minutes from order to plate, and I was digging in. I’d come back here in a heartbeat if I find myself in Lafayette again.

The name Country Cafe truly encapsulates this homey restaurant. The service was exceptional- our waitress was friendly and competent. We ordered breakfast, and all the food came out hot and delicious. This local restaurant is a great alternative to chain restaurants with similar menus. There was a mix up in the kitchen with our pancakes, but our waitress fixed the error promptly and apologized. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a local establishment with country flare.

My husband and I sought out a local family breakfast location on our way south. We chose The Country Café, and were pleasantly surprised that it was full of people when we arrived. We sat down and were greeted immediately. The waitress was very pleasant. We looked over the menu which showed homemade biscuits and gravy, so we ordered it. As our food came to the table we were greeted with biscuits that were about as thick as a pancake and white slop with a couple pieces of sausage. Not at all what was pictured. When we brought it to the attention of the waitress, she said “oh well I eat it everyday.” We also ordered eggs and corned beef hash, which we got eggs that were not only crispy on the outside but not fully cooked underneath. The corned beef hash looked like they pushed out of a can and sliced it off. The outside was lukewarm and the inside was cold. The entire food experience was terrible. If that wasn’t enough when I went to the register to pay and the young man (very nice) asked how our meal was, I told him that it wasn’t good to which we explained the issues. As we were explaining a young woman came up and said, “well maybe you just should have tried it” We explained that what we received was not what their menu described and the rest was not cooked or good at all. She wanted to argue and become very rude and disrespectful. The very nice young man said he was sorry we didn’t enjoy our experience to which she scolded him and said, don’t say we are sorry because we aren’t, they can leave.” As a reference, I only ate 2 bites of my food, I didn’t ask for anything off my bill and I tipped my waitress the full 20%. I do appreciate that this restaurant may not be a fit for us but there is no excuse for the way the young lady at the register spoke or treated someone who was asked about their experience and shared. If you don’t want to know, don’t ask! I would eat at your own risk. If you don’t like it, just keep it to yourself!

The food at Country Cafe is truly exceptional – from their hearty breakfast options to their savory lunch specials, every dish is cooked to perfection. I personally love their country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy it’s a must-try!
But what really sets Country Cafe apart is the people. The owner Kathy is incredibly kind and always takes the time to chat with patrons, making you feel like part of the family. The staff is attentive and goes above and beyond to ensure you have a wonderful dining experience.
I have visited Country Cafe multiple times and each time I leave feeling satisfied and happy. The prices are affordable, the portions are generous, and the quality of the food is top-notch.
If you’re looking for a cozy and welcoming restaurant with great food and even better people Country Cafe is the place! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly memorable dining experience.

Feel good food – a piece of Americana in the Heartland! My family always has breakfast here when we come to Lafayette. You can’t go wrong with any of the skillets. Michelle took great care of us and everything was delicious. Definitely recommend having breakfast here if you are staying at one of the hotels on SR 26.
