Came in after a long hike. Honestly, had sorta low expectations.
Let’s start with the atmosphere – it’s a bar-bar, not a bar in a restaurant. So 21 and over. Fortunately, no loud music blaring. Very easy to hold a conversation. The bar is 270 degrees. A few TV’s scattered around, but volume kept low. Overall, low-key and casual but not dingy or dive-y.
Food was upmarket bar food at fairly reasonable prices. For whatever reason, I’d always thought of Roosters (at least when I drink it in a can) as kinda indifferent Utah beer, but the expressions they had on draft here were really, really good. Did the Citrus Wit, the Copperhead, and a Chocolate Stout. All solid. For food, had a burger, burnt end mac and cheese, and the potato chips-and-garlic sauce. The chips-and-garlic were a standout at the price point. Everything else was decent. Its not high-class dining, but for bar food, it’s really well-executed.
Staff were fairly attentive. Did notice one off-shift bartender drinking and eating there, which is always a nice sign.
I will definitely be going back.

I ordered three tacos, one carnitas, one fish, and one brisket. All of them were fantastic! Each had big, bold flavors and the green salsa was excellent. The cabbage on all the tacos added the perfect crunch. The waitress was very attentive and made the experience even better. Definitely recommend The Coop by Roosters if you’re craving great tacos and friendly service!

My family loves this place especially the naughty fries. They have definitely made some updates which make this place that much more enjoyable. We went on a Friday evening around 5pm and we were able to get a seat for two right away. As we were leaving around 6pm the line started to grow and so did the wait. We obviously ordered the night fries and we got the baked chicken Milano. I was afraid the chicken would be dry. I was wrong! I try and avoid chicken dishes in most restaurants because most over bake and are dry like the desert . Anyways we will always return, just so long as the service avoids getting worse. The server could have been more attentive, and engaged more such as asking more questions, and attending the table more frequently. Maybe it was a bad night?

Really good food and nice employees that make you feel welcome. I found it convenient as it was walking distance from my hotel. I ate there twice. The second night I picked up my order and they had it ready in 15 minutes and gave me utensils. I enjoyed eating there as well because the ambiance is more comfortable for speaking and meeting people than that bars that play ball chasing events loudly. They still play the event but its not the center of attention. Very cute.

We love the quiet, great atmosphere at The Coop at lunch time. This place is 21+. Our service has always been exceptional – friendly & very attentive. The food is great; however the menu is limited. We love the chicken tacos and have enjoyed trying most of the different side dishes. I believe it has a more lively vibe at night and on the weekends as we’ve seen them advertise game nights & other activities.

One of our favorites. The former owner of Holy Smoke BBQ (so sad this place is no longer open) is cooking the meat for the sandwiches and platters. The service has been good. The food has been great. The wings with the plum sauce are delicious and better than the BBQ sauce wings. 21+ only. 9/10 and will visit again.

10 Nov 22 tonight started out great however it ended on a bad note and I am taking my rating down by 2 stars. The food was excellent, I had the Coop Burger with everything and it came with delicious crispy fries (is it worth $17, probably not but it was still good). I ordered a bourbon for after my meal as my desert. When I went to take the first sip I noticed something floating in it. I took it up to the bar to get it fixed and the young lady offered if I would like the older bourbon of the same family, I said sure. Not once during that interaction did she inform me that it would be an increase in price, when the bill came nd saw the price hike, I talked to her about it and she literally told me that I drank the one she offered me as a replacement and that the new price is currect. She eventually fixed after i asked to speak to a manager, when she returned with the check she literally told me that she thought it was ok to not inform the customer about the adjusted price and that she was the “supervisor/manager” (if that’s the case I cannot come back the rest of this trip). Go for the food but avoid the young looking female bartender like the plague(“supervisor/manager”), because if she thought that was ok then there is no telling how many customers she has increased prices on.
8 Nov 22It’s been 2.5 years since the last time work had me in Layton. Across from my hotel The Coop by Roosters, it has a modern rustic vibe which can be over looked by the restaurant next door (Roosters does stand out quite a bit). At first I didn’t know they served food, thought it was just a bar until I saw food being served, so I stepped in to give it a shot. I ordered the Tender Pecan Pork, it came with a pecan crust, potato hash, and a roasted shallot glaze. The pork was cooked perfectly, I didn’t need to use a knife as it was fork tender. The glaze gave just the right amount of sweetness to balance the porks natural salts, and the potato hash was delicious with just the right amount of bite from the carrots and pecans for texture and the fluffyness of the potatoes were a perfect match for the pork. Thank you for an amazing meal. The service was excellent, wait time just right, and a nice selection of Bourbon for desert . If there is one complaint it would be they do not have actual desert but their website mentions 3. Not a deal breaker because it was an amazing experience.

The Coop in Layton is hands-down the best bar in Davis County. The atmosphere is exactly what you want – warm, lively, stylish, and relaxed all at the same time. Whether I am meeting friends after work or just wanting a fun weekend night out, it always feels like the place to be.
One of my absolute favorite things about The Coop is having Holy Smokes BBQ on the menu. It was one of the best local BBQ spots in Davis County, and being able to enjoy their amazing brisket, pulled pork, and sides right inside the bar is such a win. It elevates the entire experience and adds that perfect local flavor you can’t get anywhere else.

Overall a pretty good time! We only got small items, but the rest of the menu looks good. Decent selection of drinks, full bar. There are tables as well as a lounge area with couches.
