Had the chance to pop by this week while in town and wanted to get my hands on some good vegan food.
During the weekday, you can find Mo V’s Kitchen open inside and she has some of the best vegan food I’ve tasted on Florida!
Collard green egg rolls are to die for, LITERALLY! And the Messy Azz Burger is so delish. Prices are moderate and well worth it.
Can’t wait to get back for breakfast at The Cookbook too!
Five Stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
Today was my first time visiting The Cookbook Restaurant. My wife and I were immediately greeted with a very warm and friendly welcome. Our server promptly came over to us and made some excellent suggestions. We accepted their suggestion and were extremely pleased with our meal. Dr. Franklin came over and asked how was our meal and made sure it met and exceeded our expectations. I was completely wowed by both the service from the staff and the quality of the food. They have a gained a new regular customer! Thank you so much! We look forward to seeing you all again soon!
I arrived at 6:15, another member in my party made a 6:00 reservation. The doors were closed and locked. No lights were on. We were forced to wait in our cars as there was no outdoor seating. There was no sign or no phone call to say they were running late. The staff finally arrived at about 6:45. Which was only 15 minutes before the restaurant was to open. There was also another large party that made a 6 or 6:30 reservation. Once seated inside or drink orders were taken. It took over 20 minutes for any drinks to come out. I was surprised that there were only three things on the menu: Fried Shrimp Platter, Fried Chicken, and Seafood Gumbo. Most of my party ordered the seafood gumbo. I ordered the fried shrimp. One person said the gumbo smelled and tasted funny. Prompting most the members in our party to send the gumbo back. One member said she felt queasy and the other members felt sick the next day (today). One member of the party said she was constantly using the restroom.
The service was okay. The manager or owner seemed very abrasive. After coming around to check on our party before any food had arrived she asked how everything well going? We responded fine, she then replied in a very loud town: “because if it’s a problem I just want to know so we can handle it.” My party was a bit confused as to her tone and the manner in which she spoke to us. After speaking with the person who arranged the reservations in our party. The manager became irate. She walked around for most of the the night with an alcoholic beverage in her hand. Also after speaking with her regarding the gumbo and the concerns, she said she would continue to sell it to other patrons.
We were told there would be live music arriving at 7 or 730. I left by 9:15 and the band had yet to show up.
Food was being warmed up in a microwave that was visible to patrons. Some of the food was still cold or Luke warm because of the microwave heating the food unevenly. Some of our party had to send the food back to get reheated.
When we started ordering (alcoholic) drinks, we were told the bartender was there yet. The bartender arrived at about 730 and took about 30 minutes to set up. We were told she would take drink orders at the table, but she did not. Drink orders were taken behind the bar and we were asked to pay immediately, instead of it being added to the food order.
On the way out, I was charged 13. 86 for my shrimp platter and 5 wings side. My colleague was also charged 13. 86 for just the shrimp. The waitress says it was because she got a full order of shrimp. But I also recieved a full order of shrimp. Even though the charge was not much. I was still wondering about the price discrepancy as there was no menu we received with prices. The menu was a chalk board with no prices.
I would not visit here again just because of the fact that the food made my party sick. The members in my party will be contacting the health department.
Now look, this ain’t some chain restaurant. There was a wait. Quite a long one, I ain’t gonna lie. But the atmosphere was homey and welcoming and the waitress was very sweet and pleasant and I enjoyed relaxing and talking to my wife.
In other words, it’s a southern thing. You sit, you talk and have a good time and then the food arrives right on it’s own good, perfect time. That’s when the talking stops altogether.
Take it from this southern boy, you’re gonna love it! And your wallet is gonna love it! So get on down here!
