Outside seating welcomes dogs and lots of dog-welcoming patrons. I loved this place and went there about 25% of my vacation time!
The food was fresh, ampleand the atmosphere was fun with great water views!!! Honest local food, adequate bar and friendly staff. We offered to share our table when it got busy, which seemed to be the norm!

An Authentic Family Run Gem on the Coast!

From the moment Nancy invited my family and I to check out The Commander’s Shellfish Camp, we knew we were in for something special, and she was absolutely right! Located right by the water in St. Augustine, this place feels like a hidden beachside treasure.

The food blew us away — fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. We’ve officially found our new favorite spot in the area. What made the visit even more memorable was that Nancy and her husband gave us a private tour of their hatchery. If you are fortunate enough to see it, prepare to be impressed. It’s truly like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

What really stands out is that this is truly a family owned and operated business. The warmth, hospitality, and pride in what they do are evident in every detail. Nancy and her husband have built something special, carrying on a proud coastal tradition and serving every guest like family.

If you’re in the St. Augustine or Crescent Beach area and craving seafood done right, bring your appetite and come hungry. The Commander’s Shellfish Camp is a rare find with high quality seafood, genuine hospitality, and a family atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. We’ll absolutely be back!

Favorite low key spot for good seafood and friendly service when I come to St Augustine. Casual, great food. Good outdoor seating when the weather is good.

Not very clean, snow crab is old but clam chowder was excellent!! Prices were reasonable but not worth $ base on the food quality.

Excellent everything, chose this place off of typing seafood restaurant into Apple Maps and it was the closest to where we were. Reviews looked good! Sooooo happy we stopped here! I’d give it six stars if I could, we got the commanders boil for 2 of us and almost finished it! The local Datil pepper sauce is another highlight and a bottle of it came home with us!

I had an amazing meal here and just had to write a review. I ordered the snow crab, shrimp sandwich, and two red sangrias. The snow crab was incredibly fresh, and dipping it in the sauce took it to another level — absolutely delicious. The shrimp sandwich was also flavorful and satisfying, and the sangria was the perfect refreshment to round out the meal.

Speaking of which, the outdoor seating was lovely — breezy, peaceful, and perfect for people-watching or simply enjoying good food and pretending you don’t have emails waiting. I’ll definitely be back next time I need a little seafood therapy!

If you’re going to be on A1A in the Crescent Beach area for lunch or dinner you should put this one on your list. The location is only 4 stars since it’s farther away from the inter coastal than I like but that’s not anyone’s fault. But the food and Service are well worth the trip. And by service I mean Colonial Sullivan. The original commander. He has an amazing story and this restaurant would not exist without him. Read all about his journey inside the menu. The food is spectacular. The fish sandwich is delicious. The draft local beer is fantastic. And of course the fried fresh shrimp are rich in flavor. Start off with the crab patty. My goodness that is so good. And if you think you don’t like creamy grits it’s only cause you haven’t had any of these. You simply have to try them to believe they are really this good. Enjoy. Don’t forget the fish dip!
