I’ve been hearing great things about The Collinsville Deli since it opened, so when on my way home from Pilot Point Feed a couple days ago I decided to stop in while passing through.
First impressions, the staff were incredibly friendly and bubbly. The place was incredibly clean, and the food handling was by the book, changing out gloves when needed, using individual utensils for certain ingredients. While I have no allergies, I feel pretty confident that cross-contamination is very unlikely here with the way I watched how they work. The entire prep area is visible and again, the cleanliness was off the charts.
They kindly went over the menu with me, explaining how they have select favorites, or you can create your own. They also have option for salads or rice bowls which I thought was great! Plus a rotating daily soup and desserts. Also, SMOOTHIES?! Yum! Unable to make up my mind, I ordered the Italian Stallion on sourdough, extra olives, toasted, AND the Southpaw in a spinach wrap, with honey mustard instead of mayo, and pressed in the panini press. Both were unbelievably good.
The Italian stallion, a smidge soggy by the time I made it home because of the Italian dresssing but sourdough tends to get that way easily, and if I didnt have to drive 20 minutes home before getting to eat it I dont think it would have been that way at all. If I had been able to just eat it immediately I believe it would have been dry, just something to keep in mind when ordering To-Go. Maybe opting for the hoagie, a thicker bread, would have solved this. It was minimal though and the flavor of it all was so good The meats were stacked thick and the veggies, incredibly fresh tasting, were piled high. My husband said this one was his favorite and I would definitely order again!
The Southpaw was my favorite of the two. I’m a picky person when it comes to chicken — you just can’t always trust it, iykyk. Nothing to complain about here though! It was so good!! Flavor was great, texture was perfect, and it was juicy. Honey mustard really set it off for me Bacon was perfectly cooked, not chewy and not too crisp, and again, veggies were fresh. I will definitely be ordering this again, FOR SURE!! I don’t know if they have any, but I think this one would also be really good with a chipotle ranch *this is my formal request to add to the menu *
Remember, with the recent ice storm a lot of small businesses really took a hit. Be sure to find a way to stop in. You won’t regret it!
