My wife and I had a wonderful experience at The Charles Restaurant in La Plata, Maryland. The food was incredibly flavorful, and the presentation was phenomenal every dish looked just as amazing as it tasted. The lamb chops and the braised short ribs were absolutely chef’s kiss.
Our waiter, Rashell, was attentive and professional, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. The service really elevated the entire experience.
My wife highly recommends the Coyote Ugly drink she said the taste was amazing and it was one of the highlights of the night.
The ambiance is beautiful, making it a perfect place for a date night or special occasion. We will definitely be back.

This place is a hidden gem; I arguably want to keep its secret. The food; atmosphere as well as service was exceptional. I do not even know how many times I passed this place; but decided to take my mother and there for lunch. From the moment I walked in I was thinking wow I have been missing out. The decor and servers were phenomenal. The menu had a lot of delicious options for reasonable prices. We opt for cream of crab soup, crab dip, crab cake sandwich, tomato basil soup and kale salad. It was so good we had to get the desert ; apple crumble. This was some the best food we have had in our area in a long time. We will be back and I cannot believe it took me so long to check them out.

My wife and I went here for the first time today for brunch. We have lived in the area for 2 years and have never heard of this place before. After our experience today, we definitely wish we would have heard about this place sooner.
The restaurant is definitely bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. The ambiance and atmosphere is really nice on the inside. Our waiter was excellent! She was very friendly, attentive, patient, and constantly made sure we had everything we needed.
My wife and I both had a Peach Bellini which was really good and was only $7 each. I had the Cream of Crab Soup and it was delicious! For entrees, both my wife and I had the Hanger Steak & Eggs. We both had a medium cooked steak and our eggs were scrambled with cheese. This entree also came with breakfast potatoes. The entree itself was really good. The potatoes and eggs were really good and the sauce from the steak made the combination of both really flavorful. The steak itself was pretty good but could’ve been better as it was a little tough. Overall it was still good!
This is a great overall brunch spot and I definitely wish we would have found this sooner. Everything was good and very well priced. The ambiance is really nice and the service was excellent! We will definitely be back!

Don’t judge a restaurant by the outside…..sometimes!! This place surprised me! Nothing inviting on the outside, but atmosphere changes upon entrance! Nice decor, attentive hostess, and MOST IMPORTANT…..The Food Was Good!!!! We were still celebrating from my cousin’s baby shower the previous day and went to Brunch at The Charles! We had shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, potatoes, turkey sausage, omelets. It was ALL GOOD!! Especially the morning potatoes!!! Delicious! The shrimp were jumbo sized and it was all plated nicely. Even the owner stopped by and asked how everything was and if we needed anything. I would recommend and definitely go back again! Must Try!!!

5 stars for the vibe, 3 stars for food and service. For a locally sourced restaurant, you would think they would have more meatless and dairy free options that doesn’t include engineered meat (beyond burger). They had a menu special once that was their version of meatless ramen…it was delivered cold to my table and had no seasoning/flavor. The brussel sprouts and hummus plate are good. Salads are ok but order two if you want to actual have a meal-sized salad. Overall, the vibe is great. The service could be better – the staff is not overly friendly but I’m starting to think that’s just Maryland people in general.

I’ve truly enjoyed the service every single visit. The experience is so personable; as regular patrons, Summer knows our drinks before we even order because of the rapport she’s built with us and her attention to detail. That kind of service can’t be replicated. It’s what keeps us coming back.

$5 Taco Tuesday with $6 Margaritas you can’t go wrong! The chicken tacos with feta are delicious! We grabbed to go this particular visit so pardon the presentation of our to-go container pics. Their crab dip is so good and if you’re craving a real Maryland cream of crab soup you need to try it here!

This place prioritizes the aesthetic over the food and service. It’s mid-tier quality food at high-tier prices because they focus on doing some sort of table side presentation with a lot of their menu offerings. For example the crab soup, the waiter came out with a bowl with a little pile of crab in the middle and then poured the soup around it and put an eyedropper of sherry on top of that. I don’t need all the pomp and circumstance just give me a bowl of soup. The soup was delicious, but probably could knock a few dollars off the price if you cut out the tableside show. The interior design is reminiscent of a hotel or B&B restaurant with quirky wallpaper and velvet seating, but many of the chairs and parts of the booth had mysterious and very obvious stains on them which makes it feel like the place is dressing up as a classy joint rather than actually being a classy joint. The menu doesn’t paint an accurate picture of what you’re ordering, for example I ordered the “hot Charlie” which was just described as a hot apple cider, but 20 minutes later when it finally came to the table it had a whole sugar rim and toasted marshmallows looking like a fancy cocktail. On the other hand, I ordered the Charles burger which didn’t even come with standard lettuce and tomato, so sometimes you’re getting more than what’s described on the menu and sometimes you’re getting less. We came during lunch and in our short visit we had the water glasses on the table were dirty with obvious specks of gunk when we sat down, we had orders delivered to the wrong table despite the restaurant not being busy, our own server was inattentive leaving our drinks empty for most of the meal and was not even the one to deliver our food, and the food was resoundingly “just OK” for the cost.

I absolutely love it here. Been in La Plata, MD for 1 year so Idk everything that’s around, but I absolutely love that I found The Charles. Great food. Great drinks. Great service. Chito (bartender) made the best drinks. This is my spot!
