I finally tried The Canopy and totally get why people recommend it! It has that classic local pit beef stand feel, nothing fancy, just really good food done right.

I ordered the pit beef sandwich and it was so good!! Juicy, smoky and piled high.

What I liked most was the vibe. It feels like one of those longtime neighborhood spots that people have been going to forever. Super casual, friendly service and just a solid place to grab a great sandwich.

Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to when I’m in the area!

Have watched this place decline over the last 20 years. They used to be a neighborhood institution serving up good food for fair prices. These days since new ownership took over they’ve started buying much cheaper meat and they’ve increased their prices. Last time I went the pit beef was so dry it was cracking apart. If you want good bbq go for Klobys, Addys, or pioneer. Even mission is better than canopy

Excellent service and food at The Canopy! Stopped by with my family to try the pork and ribs they offer after hearing good things. The ribs were great and the pork even better. Dorothy and Fern were very welcoming and made the experience for me. I saw they also have some food trucks that I look forward to trying—will be back!

We ordered pit beef sandwiches, fries, cornbread, and drinks, and everything came out fresh and really well prepared. The food was flavorful, and the portions felt fair for the price. Overall it was a great experience, and I look forward to coming back to eat here again.

First off. This was nostalgic. My sister and I used to go to the canopy in Glen Burnie when we were kids. Always got the pit beef, fries, cole-slaw and a drink. Now it’s been years and the one in glen burnie closed. We seen there was one in Ellicott city. We ordered our pitbeef sandwiches, fries, coleslaw and drinks. It was fantastic! Now we ordered our pitbeef medium. Of course we did not know we wanted it cooked well done for what we were trying to remember. Over all 10/10 experience and food. Good for the price! (3 sandwiches, 1 super large fry, 2 drinks, 2 corn bread, and a medium thing of coleslaw came out just under $60.) Was well worth the drive to get to. Wish they would open a location in Glen Burnie again!

I swear the fried shrimp and onion rings at The Canopy on Route 40 have healing powers. After a long day, this place is basically my version of therapy. The onion rings are perfectly crispy, the fried shrimp are ridiculously good, and if I’m really leaning into comfort food mode, the ribs seal the deal.

They are a classic Route 40 spots where you know exactly what you’re getting – great food, zero nonsense, and the kind of meal that makes you turnaround any rough day!

So I had left Maryland to go back home before I was able to try the first time but I recently flew back down to visit family and we all went and gave it a shot, and let me tell you for someone like me that RARELY eats meats , I will fly again just for this . The ambience , the food , the environment is all top tier . 10/10 will recommend!!!!!

Wife got half a rack with beans and potato salad. Tons of grizzle, not much meat-threw away most of it. I got a pit beef sandwich. Very bland-was not smoked and tasted more like roast beef than pit beef. Do yourself a favor and go to Adam’s Ribs.

NEW!!! The Canopy just opened a Dining Room right next door. Yay!!!!Clean and pretty. Love it!

I’ve smelled their meats cooking for years while I sat in the next-door Mickey D’s drive-thru line. It always SMELLED good, but I never stopped in to try. Today I did and my only question is What took me so long????

Had the large Pit Beef with onions, horseradish, tiger sauce and I later added ketchup, plus an order of Onion Rings.
The beef was perfectly cooked, thin-sliced, and has a super-tasty bark. SO moist and tender that every bite was a clean bite – no need to gnaw your way though this sandwich!! The Onion Rings were terrific, and I’ve heard their boardwalk-style fries are top-notch. I passed on them today, but won’t make that mistake when I come back. Soon!

CAME BACK with my 20-yr old. Same sandwich X2 along with fries plus their KILLER Onion rings. And there was much rejoicing!

Back again with the wife a Bawlmer-girl who knows her Pit Beef. 4 star review. OH, and those ONION RINGS. My gawd!!!! So good.

NOTE the picture taken of their exterior. See the blue smoke coming out of their chimney? THAT tells you the folks at The Canopy know what they’re doing, that their fire is perfect and the meats are being bathed in pure, delicious, wood smoke.

We decided to try The Canopy based on recommendations from a few friends. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The pulled pork had an old taste, as if it had just been reheated, leaving a bad aftertaste. The chicken was even worse; my son ended up spitting it out into the rubbish bin. The roast beef sandwich was tough and tasted off. The only acceptable food was the fries. What a shame, we hoped it would be good BBQ.
