We have lived in Ellicott City for roughly 25 years and just visited The Canopy for the first time. Now I know what all the hype is about. The first thing that hits you is the smell of the wood burning pit. It draws you in like a magnet. My wife and I opted for the sliced pit beef sandwiches, onion rings, and coleslaw. Everything was fresh and delicious. Prices were reasonable too. Definitely going back.

What happened to The Canopy!! I’ve lived in the area for 35+ years and have been to The Canopy several times. After a year hiadous, I revisited. It’s gone downhill. The chicken and ribs were so overcooked and so dry. Both lacked spice and flavor. I guess they think tossing some sauce on dry meat does the trick. The mac n cheese seems like it comes from the frozen section at Giant; no real cheese in it at all. This place is for those that like bland, dry, flavorless food. Not sure how they are surviving in today’s environment. A chain like mission BBQ beats this place.

Pit beef was good. Lots of toppings to choose from which is better than other places. Portions were good size. But prices a bit high for portions. Little containers they give you for sauces are quite small. Good choices of sauces but they should give a little larger containers for taking barbecue sauce with you. I had to make about 5 containers to get what I needed. I’d come back again as the food was pretty good.

Store makes good sandwiches, have been here several times over the years. Simple place. No place to sit down right now, just a take out joint. Staff were friendly. Prices are more expensive but that’s probably becuase the costs have gone up.

We picked The Canopy because it was nearby and had good ratings. The place is just a counter, there’s no place to sit and eat. I went late on a Friday and the place was empty! The service was fantastic, everyone gave me recommendations and offered samples. I went with the pulled pork and the chicken and ribs combo with potato salad and Mac and cheese.

The Canopy is strictly carry out. There are no chairs in there. The chicken was dry and the turkey was tender but salty. The green beans and mashed potatoes were great. Everything is a la carte. This location is expanding. They will have seating by the end of the Summer. I don’t know if that will make the food any better.

I haven’t been to canopy in probably 10yrs. Do to moving. Happened to be in the area. They have cut the quality of the ingredients from what they had before.melted cheese watered down. Not food for the fries anymore… pitbeef seemed the same as well as the pit turkey. I also do cheese on pittbeef so was highly disappointed with it being watered down.

Our go to for a Pit Beef Sammy. The Ham, Turkey, and Beef sandwiches are cooked to order and served fresh. Peanut oil Ocean fries are delicious, especially cooked crispy.

Ordered 1 lg sandwich med rare. Good! Ordered1 lg sandwich med. It was very dry and lots of burnt meat in it. Definately over well done! Fries good. Cole slaw good. No indoor seating.

There isn’t anything about this place that stands out. The meat is dry and bland. It’s the lowest tier pit beef I’ve had in Maryland and the pit ham is dry and salty. The chicken wings also lacked flavor though they were cooked rather nice. I’ve been here twice now and won’t be going back. In comparison to other pit restaurants it isn’t worth the money in any way, especially when they sell bottles of Kirkland water for about $2 a pop.
