Amazing place that actually takes the pandemic seriously with true contactless interactions. Food was delicious and our waitress super sweet and attentive. Backyard seating was lovely though be warned only about half of it is protected from the elements if it rains. Will definitely return next time we’re in Harpers Ferry.

Lovely dining, inside or outside. The atmosphere is great. Inside is a nice spot for small groups and cozy conversations. Outside there is a patio option and a very cool bench/bar style picnicing area under a live edge gazebo.

The staff was very friendly, helpfull, and knowledgeable about the area.

The food was good. This was our first time here, but I can recommend the tomato curry soup and the shredded chicken sliders for appetizers and the veggie wrap and steak fajita quesadilla.

Big thumbs up over all. We’ll definitely be back.

Can’t wait for wine coming in July!!

Had a wonderful outdoor meal with my son. He had been here before and recommended it. I had the blue cheese burger and he had the salmon with risotto. Both absolutely fantastic and perfectly cooked. The side salad was delicious too, very fresh and colorful. Everything was contactless and safe and the waitress was very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

Visited on Friday May 17.

Family was in town from California and was passing through the area. Hungry, we decided to stop here for dinner.

We were sat immediately. 10 minutes later, our server had still not greeted us, but the owner was walking around talking to tables. She approached us, apologized for the delay, and offered to get us all waters. Took another 5-10 minutes for us to get the waters.

We had been there for about 20 minutes before we were able to place our orders… 4 of us ordered the hamburgers, and 1 of us ordered the grilled cheese, and a soup. We also got the chips and salsa appetizer. Fries were not an option (I’m guessing the place doesn’t have a deep fryer) so we all got the potato ships + pickle for the side. No sauce comes on the burger, so we asked for ketchup, mayo, and barbecue sauce.

Took about 10 minutes for the chips and salsa to come out- the salsa itself was passable, but the chips were very clearly store bought and from a bag. First red flag- frying chips takes about 30 seconds and are infinitely better.

Long story short…. we didn’t get our burgers until about an hour after ordering. Absurd. 4 burgers and a grilled cheese should take about 10-15 minutes tops, those things do not take long to cook. We each ordered ours medium- but each was cooked differently. Only one was actually medium, the others were all medium well- well (mine was about as brown as you can get). Meat was poorly seasoned (why don’t they put the steak seasoning they advertise on their burgers). Server didn’t bring the barbecue with the order… asked if we still wanted it. Yeesh. It’s not hard to grab a quick side of a sauce, and asking the table if they want something they asked for after their food took an hour is a bit ridiculous. Hungry and pressed for time not wanting to wait another 10 minutes for a side of sauce, we answered no.

The potato chips were a bit stale. The portion of chips provided was a bit small. The grilled cheese sandwich cost the same as the burger, and wasn’t nearly big enough to justify the cost- consider bumping the price down from $12 to $10. Invest in a small deep fryer and make thin cut fries, sweet potato fries, and tortilla chips to order- selling store brand chips at a sit down restaurant is a bit of a let down.

We never got the soup.

I’m surprised by the high reviews this place has. It definitely has potential- but they need to revise their ticket system, reorganize their kitchen, menu, and retrain their cook staff to improve efficiency- and for heavens sake, if the food takes an hour, you need to be offering free dessert, appetizer, or some kind of discount. Reputation is everything for a small family owned restaurant, and bad experiences like this on a night that really didn’t feel too busy are un excusable.

The owner seemed nice enough as well as the waiter. There’s just plenty of room for growth.

Excellent food, excellent service. Chicken Alfredo with fresh grilled chicken and the steak quesadilla…both very good. No wine and beer yet but they are approved so any day. They do have vegan options as well.

The Canal House Cafe has become a regular stop with every visit to Harper’s Ferry. Not only a beautiful place, the people working here are friendly, the food and drinks are phenomenal, and even during COVID times they have an incredibly cute, tree-shaded yard to sit and enjoy your meal in.

This is also a walk down the hill to the historic center of Harper’s Ferry, (where parking is far more scarce!) and on the walk there are plenty of additional cute shops, stops, and history, which only add to the charm and richness of your visit!

They also do have vegan and vegetarian options for anyone looking for plant-based options.

Authentic without being kitsch. The food does take a little while to cook but that’s because it’s fresh and well worth the wait. The staff is very pleasant and welcoming. Get the pepperoni roll.

Even 1 star is too much. It’s after lunch hours, three of us are here for an hour already waiting for our order. So far they brought USD 8 humus (tiny tiny, compliment in other restaurants). This place ruined our day in terms of timing. I asked for olive oil instead of their dressings, brought me some canola or vegetable – seen even on photo. Avoid at all cost. But steak that appeared about two hours later was good. Next time I’d avoid. The waited didn’t even say goodbye to us after my husband left 15% tips.
