The food was delicious!! I had a beef vindaloo bowl, my partner had a spare rib pie, and the ingredients, flavors, and spice were fantastic! Plus, the owner was super, super nice! We’ll definitely be back… maybe tomorrow. 🙂

If you haven’t tried this new South African food truck yet, you are seriously missing out! Every bite is bursting with flavor, and the quality is beyond impressive. The meat pies are rich, savory, and perfectly seasoned, and the butter chicken is hands-down one of the best I’ve ever had—creamy, spiced just right, and utterly addictive.
What really sets this place apart is the crust and dough—freshly made, beautifully flaky, and perfectly golden. You can tell it’s made with care and love. Every dish feels like a warm hug from someone who knows how to cook with soul.

Absolutely FANTASTIC food. The Calabash serves pies (think chicken pot pie in the USA, but way more than chicken) that are incredible. Flaky pastry, superb fillings, so savory, so good. And with a view of the mountains from the picnic tables? Can’t be beat. The owner/chef is a delight and even brought my dog water as we sat and enjoyed our pie. I cannot recommend this enough, and I can’t believe it took me so long to try it. ALSO???? You can buy the pies frozen for nights when you’re wanting something cozy but also are lazy. I now have two in my freezer.

We tried Clive’s lamb pie, chicken curry bowl with naan, and chocolate and berry hand pies. Wow, yum! The mains were fresh and perfectly spiced, pastry crusts super buttery and flaky, and everything made with skill and love, as well as reasonably priced. The picnic tables with shades have lovely views and a nice view. I lived in South Africa and it’s tough if not impossible to find authentic South African food out here. Plus, I’ve been hoping for a friendly spot equally suitable for an afternoon snack as for a full meal, and this is now it for me. Highly recommend!

Excellent customer service! Food is amazing and finally something different to eat in Salida. A few of our staff ordered from here and the next day our whole team got lunch from The Calabash because everyone wanted to try the meat pies.
Very reasonably priced compared to other food trucks/restaurants in this area.

Wow every single item from the Calabash food truck was fresh, tender, flavorful, outstanding. No offense to other businesses, but the pastry that the beef meat pie was is was 4x more tender than any local bakery’s pastry shell. It was like eating tender beef wrapped in tasty air 😛
The cheeseburger smash burger meat was tender and hand made with tasty relishes, the fried chicken sandwich was again very tender dark meat in a thin batter. And the rolls were even super squishy (again, hard to come by in the high Rockies). Even the French fries were handmade and tender. And the owner is so kind! We will definitely make this a part of our takeout routine. Sorry no photos, ate too fast.

I had been meaning to try this for the last few months and finally got around to it, and man I wish I had gone here as soon as it opened. We had butter chicken curry and it was extremely flavorful and smooth, with the spices providing flavor without the unnecessary heat (I’m a wuss, please don’t judge.) The oxtail pie was devoured by my five year old. I didn’t get a bite but my wife did and said it was delicious, so I’ll have to trust them for this review. The owner is extremely friendly and takes great pride in his food, We will definitely be back.

Clive’s food is truly top notch! We had him cater our wedding reception, I can’t say enough about the amazing quality and freshness! He really came through for us in a pinch as well as we were having difficulties finding other caterers for our date. Highly recommend his services and you can expect some fancy, tasty food for your next event!

The sausage roll is so flaky any buttery and the butter chicken has such good flavor. Don’t leave without a cream pie or any pastry they have available. Packaged very nicely togo.
This is one of those spots I don’t feel bad spending my money at because the quality is always there. The owner is also so kind and enjoyable to interact with.
