My wife and I occasionally go here for special events, like the Tri-Ethnic Festival, or when family members from Ireland visit.
I love the corned beef sandwich and the Friday fish fry.
After speaking with many of my guests, everyone had the same feedback: the food was terrible. Guests said it was cold, the chicken tasted boiled, and the roast beef was served with stale rolls (and not the correct kind). Several guests told me they didn’t even eat because it was that bad — one mentioned wrapping their roast beef in a napkin out of embarrassment for not touching their plate. The mashed potatoes tasted instant and flavorless, and there was no horseradish served with the roast beef as expected.
Service was also disappointing. Guests repeatedly had to ask for more of everything, as the attendants were not attentive. The food presentation was poor, with the buffet tables pushed against the wall in the corner, causing a very slow line and crowding.
We were told coffee and tea were included in the price ($20 a person), but when guests asked for them, they were told there wasn’t any made. One staff member even offered to share her personal coffee instead. The bar situation was also mishandled — we were told it would be open, but there was no bartender available. When guests ordered drinks, one even had to return a Bloody Mary because it was made incorrectly.
Overall, while the venue itself looked nice, the quality of food and service completely fell short, especially for the price we paid. My family has friends who are members of the Iris Center, and even they suggested that we write a review or a letter because they were so surprised by our experience. This was such a special day for me and my family, and I truly wish it had been handled with more care.
Had a Ruben as well.
Can’t wait for the kitchen to make the Sheppard’s Pie again.
I could live off their fish fry.
