Winner on the Ruben on rye. Great flavors great sandwich, nice guy. Will come back and try a cheesesteak but the Ruben is great. Prices are normal $14 ruben and $10, $12 and $16 I think on cheesesteak
Food cart owner was pleasant and there are tables around where you can eat. Good find and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

I’m from the Memphis area and visiting. This was the first food place in Portland that I visited and it was FIRE!!!! The food was made to order and the cook/owner was super respectful, helpful, and fast. I really did enjoy the sandwich and it is now in my top 3 of Philly cheesesteak sandwiches I’ve ever had. Excellent food

This is actually a 4.8 rating. Here’s the deal, it’s a really tasty sandwich. The service was first-rate and had a wonderful conversation with the owner (I think he was anyway), and the atmosphere? Itz’s a food truck…. rock on! They use white American, which is legit and the fried onions, mushrooms, and peppers melded nicely with the well seasoned and cooked steak. The only beef (haha) I have is with the roll. It he can get a roll that is a little closer in the crusty outside, chewy inside texture that Philly rolls are known for, this would be a slam dunk. That said, if I ever come back to Portland again, I will definitely partake again. Keep up the great work at The Block!

Hands down the absolute best cheesesteak!!!! Simple, just meat and cheese and added a little bbq sauce and ate the entire thing. I got the small and was shocked at how big it was, and still ate it all. Wanted to stop but couldn’t! The price is on point too! Highly recommend!!!

Most excellent sandwich! The bread holds the heaping amounts of steak, peppers, mushrooms and cheese without getting soggy. The steak is tender and these guys know what they are doing! No more trips to philly (or Jersey Mikes) for me. Im jumping on a Max train for my next steak fix! Awesome value, taste, and service. Thank you, I’ll be back very soon.

Easily one of the best cheese steaks I have ever had. The reuben was good too, but it wasn’t the standout for me.

BEST cheesesteak I’ve ever had! The person cooking and serving was kind enough to cut the sandwich in half without even asking since I was sharing with my partner. Will DEFINITELY be back!

We discovered this place a few months ago and have gone back at least once a week since our first taste. We’ve tried the Reuben and the Black Garlic Burger each once, and while they were both AMAZING, we can’t seem to stop ordering the PHENOMENAL Cheesesteak! It’s huge, wet, hot, and OH SO delicious! Seasoning is always on point and ingredients fresh. The guys running the cart are super friendly and any special requests are kindly honoured- I’ve heard people ask for no bun and also customizing what you want on your sandwich.

Ranked #1 Philly cheesesteak by VanPort Insider. The Block is a food truck in Pioneer Square that has only two things to eat on their menu and they’re both sandwiches: A Reuben and Philly Cheesesteak. The topping options are onions, peppers, mushrooms and cheese. With a menu like that you’d better be great or you won’t last long. This truck has been around since 1997 so they’ve got it right. INSIDER TIP: While you’re there, experience the Echo Chamber. It’s a specific point in the square on the Northwest corner that looks like a small amphitheater where the architecture creates a natural reverb or echo effect, making sounds like voices or claps resonate in an interesting way. It never fails to blow people’s minds. Check out my profile for more great eateries and craft cocktail bars. -VanPort Insider
