My friends and I went to Red Eagle distillery and we were looking for somewhere to go eat. Behold…the mysterious sign at the start of the winding path next door that said “Food this way!” I’m so glad we followed that sign!
If you’re looking for some cozy & intimate vibes, this place is for you. It was a former bootleg distillery and brothel. Snag a table upstairs at the bar for the ultimate experience.
The small plates were fantastic and the craft cocktails were on point. A perfect place for a date night.
This place is a bit hard to find, but, that’s the allure. It was the favorite stop during our winery tour. Can’t wait to return!

We came up for the weekend and had this place recommended by multiple locals. They did warn us we would probably need a reservation, but we decided to chance it.
We had the cheese tray, and bread with honey butter to start. Both were fantastic. The bread was piping hot and had a great spicy kick.
The smosh burgers were delicious, but the pumpkin gnocchi was truly one of the best fall dishes I’ve had in a long time.
The whole house was gorgeous. People were coming in just to walk around and look.
My one and only suggestion would be lights along the walkway. We passed a group of older women who were having trouble seeing so we pulled out our phone flashlights to show them the sidewalk and where they were going.

What a great find on a country road in Thompson Ohio! We discovered the Black Door Tavern while we were visiting the Red Eagle Distillery, right next to door! Which, by the way was a great distillery, in a beautifully restored barn. The bar in the tavern is upstairs and definitely where you want to be! First off, it’s beautiful. Secondly, there’s a fascinating story behind the building itself. The drinks were amazing and the food was even better. The small plates were exceptional. The bang- bang shrimp was outstanding, I’m craving it as I write about it. Definitely worth the drive along with many beautiful wineries to check out along the way.

Black Door Tavern has become our favorite place when we’re looking for upscale small plates and old fashion inspired drinks. The beautifully restored farmhouse creates an intimate setting while the friendly staff and knowledgeable bartenders provide a wonderful service. The chef is a true artist who is always creating new menu items.

We actually did the lantern festival here and it was beautiful!!! I pushed a stroller, so if you wanted to know, it is very flat, but most of it is packed limestone, so a couple of places it pulled my wheels a little bit, but not enough to cause an issue or deter from our experience. This place in general is beautiful and I would like to come back during the day to explore the inside.

A special treat and change up in the heart of wine country. Right next door to red Eagle people are missing this hidden gem! Beautiful atmosphere and old house features. Enjoy outdoor seating with a view or the gorgeous wooden bar upstairs. The service was on point. The beverages were tasty (and pricey) and the small plates were wonderful. Nothing else like this in the area for tapas and small plate sharing. The starter bread, potatoes, and asparagus were our top 3. There is plenty to try to suit different tastes. We like that the menu changes as well! A new favorite in the area!!

The 2022 NYE menu was simply spectacular. Every course of the 5 course dinner was perfectly timed, the drinks were well poured and the dishes were exquisite. For a group of 10 people on a holiday night, we had great service and every items was delicious! It’s hidden away, but worth the look. Highly Recommend!!
