This restaurant did not disappoint! From the friendly customer service to the delicious food, everything was excellent. I ordered the patty melt, and our son had a hamburger both were served hot, flavorful, and of excellent quality. The fries were perfectly crispy, and the presentation of each dish was charming. The warm, hometown hospitality made the experience even better. Everyone who came in was greeted in such a personable and welcoming way. We can’t wait to return! Thank you for the wonderful service and hospitality.

Outstanding little restaurant in small town southern Iowa. My dad and I went on a fishing trip here but because of the rain I think we spent more time at The Barnyard than we did on the lake. All the wait staff are amazing. So friendly and kind. I really liked the solid oak tables and chairs. The food was good. Just an enjoyable time. Loved meeting all the locals. It kind of felt like we were part of the family.

this a excellent place to eat… johnas raises all his own beef literally like 3 miles away from the restaurant… it doesn’t get anymore FRESH than that guys & gals… & he welcomes everyone from everywhere… just ask will ferrell, yes the actor… he actually visited the Barnyard while making Will & Harper… soooooo ya I mean he takes good care of everyone no matter who or what you feel on the inside … Daily specials are always good, but his Hot Beef is unbeatable & fresh from farm to table… Stop bt & try he is 1000 feet off I-35 Leon exit… Tori, Charlie, Cricket, Jen, Aiden, his little Mexican cook, & the rest of his staff are awsome & CUTE… Follow on Facebook for short videos of behind the scenes kitchen-cooking & DAILY specials…

We stopped in about an hour before closing time on a weekday (closes at 8 p.m.). Our group had a chicken strip basket with corn nuts, grilled ham and cheese sandwich with corn nuts, and The Bull specialty burger and fries. The food w came in a timely manner and our entire group was pleased with their food. The burger was the best that I’ve had in quite some time. The bacon and the onion rings on the burger were prepared just right and it had just the perfect amount of BBQ sauce.
Our waitress was friendly and checked on our group several times. The menu has plenty of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was our first time stopping at The Barnyard, but won’t be our last.

Yesterday the food was not good. Mashed potatoes were gritty and the gravy was nearly tasteless. I’ve heard that the place was slipping but my experience Yesterday was sad. I have had many good meals here in the past.

Love this diner. Hometown atmosphere. Friendly service. Excellent food. We got the hot beef special and it came with a salad and cake. Recommend the broccoli salad. The cake came with the meal for only $13. It has a pudding layer and whipped cream on top.

The atmosphere was homey and friendly. The service staff was nice. The dining area holds maybe 30-35 people. The food was good. I always enjoy a place that serves gizzards. My little country heart. My husband and I had the special, which came with candied carrots. They were amazing! I don’t typically care for cooked carrots, these tasted like sweet potatoes. Just so delicious.

What a great find on a road trip. Breakfast til 10:30, sandwiches, burgers. I had a hamburger and fries. The burger was actually bigger than the bun and was cooked all the way through. French fries were delicious. My husband had the special, chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, corn, and cake for dessert. He finished his entire plate which is a rarity for him. All the food was delicious. And only $30, including iced tea. We will definitely stop here again.

I have eaten in a lot of places and a lot of state in my lifetime. The Barnyard is by far my favorite place to have dinner and supper. Charlie was wonderful, the owner is a great man that loves his patrons! we had beef commercial (as close to my moms) as I will ever get!! The pie was amazing, and the turnovers were the best I have ever had. I make several trips south The Barnyard will always be my families “go to” spot in Iowa!! Thank you to everyone that works there and the patrons that made us feel right at home.

Ordered the Barnyard Burger with sweet potato fries and the “BBQ” Burger w/onion rings, along with the corn nuggets. Food was fantastic, service was fantastic. Tea was great as well! Owner/staff talked with us for a few minutes about where we were from and where we were going. Very Nice place, Staff and Owner. Will definitely stop here again if we’re heading that direction
