The 49er Lounge is a place known for beer, fresh-squeezed margaritas and history. It is filled with western decor and friendly service that has satisfied the likes of a thirsty John Wayne after a long day in the West and thousands of motorcycle riders and travelers who have driven down America’s Highway. The history of the bar is perhaps its strongest point. The 49er Lounge on Route 66 is not a place where you will have to wait in lines to order expensive drinks. Its a place where you can relive the old days when bartenders were friendly and where you could get a good strong drink after a long hard day.

A great restaurant found in the historic El Rancho hotel. Service was friendly and the food was yummy.
I ordered a vegetarian version of the Katherine Hepburn wedge salad with a side of breaded mushrooms from the apps menu.
The server was great about changing the salad and cocktails slightly to accommodate our dietary requirements.
If you’re staying at the hotel or nearby I would definitely recommend dropping in to enjoy the food, service and history.

Arrived after dark in Gallup and I wanted to get a quick bite to eat. I pulled into the El Rancho Hotel parking lot and then strolled into 49er Lounge. I immediately liked the atmosphere with the jukebox playing country music & a small but social crowd. I ordered the spicy chicken enchiladas and it was absolutely delicious The modelo was appropriately cold and paired well with the meal.

Tacos was good, tasted awesome and was quick. Got the order within 10 minutes or less. small bar are, though had to sit at a table since there was no bar space. Wish the server was a bit more happier though was kinda like just doing her job but was ok at leasted checked on me about the food.

You MUST VISIT Hannah at this amazing bar! She makes not only amazing Margaritas (we
tried the House, Prickly Pear and Cadillac margaritas ) but her Old Fashioned cocktails are amazing and she is just as sweet and pleasant as can be! The atmosphere of the bar is so fun with great music and amazing stained glass paintings. Go and enjoy Hannah!

This place is truly a gem. Their food is incredible—classic, simple, and done just right. And their staff is awesome. My server Leland was immaculate—fast, attentive, and friendly. Will always come here when I’m in Gallup.

I’m a tour guide and bring a group of 20.. which is, I would assume, good business for them… but he was super rude and insulting.

Bartender denied my valid ID because it was vertical (not expired, current and valid). It happens which is why I carry my passport as a second form. Bartender wouldnt even let me pull it out and told me and my fiancé we couldn’t be in the bar area and that because he “saw my ID was vertical he couldn’t even look at any form of ID.” As a bartender myself, I’m not sure what your ID policy is, but you should figure it out. Checked into the hotel with my ID and went to another bar, no problem. If you look young good luck with this lovely establishment.
