Stopped to pick up dinner to go. Fabulous food and great friendly people. Everything was perfect seasoned, fresh, and really nice sized portions. Had a cup of really nice green tea while we waited. Like many Richmond restaurants they only take cash but also offer etransfer.

Thai Son in Richmond is a solid, no-frills spot for Vietnamese comfort food. The pho is decent and hits the spot when you’re craving something warm and familiar, while the vermicelli bowls are the real standout—well-portioned, fresh, and satisfying. It’s very much a straightforward, old-school place, so don’t expect anything fancy. One thing to note: it’s cash only, so come prepared.

It’s a Vietnamese chain I believe. Food quality and taste are reliable. I enjoyed my meal. While this location is spacious, clean and well decorated, eating while having servers working closely hovering near your tables (cleaning and restocking tables) and talking in other languages slightly impacted my experience. It’s also cash only, luckily we carry some with us but I had to subtract one point for this day and age.

Overall it was a good experience. The place is clean, bright, and comfortable. Service was friendly and the food came out quickly.
I tried the pho, and honestly, it wasn’t my favorite. The broth was okay but not very rich or deeply flavored. It didn’t taste very authentic to me — but I admit I’m a picky person when it comes to pho.
That said, other dishes were much better. The bánh xèo (see photo) was crispy on the outside and nicely golden. It came with plenty of fresh lettuce and herbs, which I really appreciated. Wrapped with greens and dipped in fish sauce, it was tasty and satisfying. The cơm tấm was also good — flavorful and well prepared.
So while the pho may not be the best in town, other dishes like bánh xèo and cơm tấm make it worth a visit. I would come back again, just not for the pho.

I vowed to never “Pho it up” in Richmond after my last experience but this was different. You cannot go wrong with a well trusted Vancity OG brand. They kept it 100 with their “Cash Only” racket, even in Richmond! The nerve of these guys. Not going to lie but I was a little worried it was sold to Chinese owners. Walked in to a loud but comforting Vietnamese staff lunch chatter. The prices tho! East Van prices in Richmond! Shrewd indeed. Portions? I swear it’s probably even bigger than a couple of the east side locations. It’s a done deal, I’m only going to PHO it up here from now on.

I recently visited Thai Sun with my husband to enjoy some food. I ordered the lemongrass chicken with rice, and I have to say, the food was delicious. The place wasn’t crowded, which was nice. However, my experience was marred by the behavior of the staff. We asked for a table for two, and instead of a greeting, the server simply pointed us to a table. During the meal, no one greeted us, though the staff was clearly more enthusiastic and welcoming to other customers. While I really enjoyed the food, the service was disappointing, and unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

The broth was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, and the noodles were cooked to perfection. The fresh herbs and toppings added a wonderful touch to the dish. The service was quick and friendly, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. This is hands down some of the best pho I’ve ever had. I’ll definitely be coming back for more!

Went for dinner with friends, and overall it didn’t disappoint. I had the #34 Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio, basically pork with springs rolls on vermicelli with vegetables. The portion was surprisingly large, bigger than i remember and quite tasty. Definitely a good value.
Service was about what I would expect meaning just okay. I still get a little annoyed they only take cash, not even debit. Place was moderately full, but not too noisy, although the kitchen clatter was annoyingly loud at times. Good for the occasional meal at a fair price.

My wife and I have been to this Thai Son multiple times as it is close to Walmart for grocery shopping.
The restaurant is very spacious and clean plus there is plenty of seating. The servers are always very friendly so it’s a very comfortable environment while enjoying your meal.
My wife ordered the Pho Dac Biet which is their house special combination beef (different types like rare beef, tendon, tripe, etc) with rice noodles in soup. The noodles were bouncy and chewy, the meat was plentiful while the soup had great umami beef taste.
I ordered their Banh Xeo Rau Song which is a special vietnamese crispy crepe that had pork, shrimp, squid and different veggies inside it. Even though the crepe looks like it is an egg, it is actually made out of rice flour, water and turmeric powder. Also this dish comes with side veggies that you would use the lettuce to make a wrap with the Banh Xeo and add other veggies like pickled daikon, pickled carrots and cucumbers with fish sauce. It was so yummy.
Will definitely be coming back here again.
