Every single dish we tried was delicious, packed with flavor, and clearly made with love. Chef May herself was in the kitchen, and you can taste her passion and energy in every bite. We ordered our dishes on the simpler side, but asked for extra spice on the side — it was the perfect way to dial it up just how we like it.
Portions were generous (we had more than enough to take home), so sadly no room for dessert this time… but that just gives us the perfect excuse to come back soon.
Huge thanks to Chef May and her entire team — the food, the atmosphere, and the hospitality make Thai Pearl a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back with the whole family very soon.
Now, the Pad Thai… I have to be honest — 1/10. I barely touched it. It didn’t have that classic peanut flavor at all — it tasted more like fish sauce and lime. Just not it.
The highlight of the meal was definitely the curry. Solid 8/10. Full of flavor and I’d 100% get it again, especially with the crispy tofu — that combo was fire.
I’ve been eating here since they opened. They pride themselves in authentic Thai food flavors. When they opened, the balance of flavors was much better than it is now. I order red curry takeout last week and wondered why it was so sweet (like raw sugar sweet) I thought maybe they had an off night. Ordered it again tonight and the same. Curry’s should have a ‘subtle’ sweet taste but not at all be the focus of a dish. It was awful. It’s so unfortunate about their food- considering curry’s are a staple in Thai food. I will not be back and as a local it’s so unfortunate but I’m just not throwing my money away for below sub par food. I do not recommend what is “today Thai Pearl”.
I would give 5 stars on portions bec clearly they are most generous indeed. When I picked up my take-out, I was blown away by both the size of the order and the sheer weight of it! In this expensive age, that alone would def get 10 stars if possible.
However… I ordered my fave Thai food = Pad Thai then decided to try their Fresh Rolls. (Wish now I had went Spring Rolls instead.) I ordered my Pad Thai w/no spice bec altho’ I do enjoy a lil’ kick, it’s risky bec one cook’s mild might be another’s way too hot. I also added extra shrimp.
I was so looking forward to this as I had skipped lunch and suppertime was fast approaching. Opened it all up, again very blown away by the huge portions. Everything looked gd.. Squeezed out the 2 lime wedges all over, stirred it up well.
Took a bite of the Fresh Rolls first and loved how fresh all ingredients seemed to be and the sauce was delicious. But! Man the rice paper’s texture was like glue = horrible actually. It was like trying to eat rubber cement glue. Google tells me it means the rice paper sat in water for far too long. I ended up peeling off that rice paper, throwing it out then dumping the ingredients into the container and will eat it like a salad instead. ;D
The Pad Thai = Noodles were fine but the whole dish lacked flavor as it was SO very bland. The bountiful shrimp sadly, were clearly overcooked or re-heated? I don’t know but rather than that delightful crunch into shrimp sweetness, they were sooo chewy and their flavor cooked rt out of them.
Google tells us that properly cooked shrimp ought be in a C-shape and that overcooked (or cooked then re-heated) shrimp will have an O-shape. Every one of my many shrimp are Os.
Too bad, so sad. Might be whoever was doing the cooking on this day needs a refresher course on the proper and authentic recipe for Pad Thai as well as the art of cooking shrimp. So no, I don’t say everything about this restaurant’s fd is not gd, I am simply one person who tried 2 menu items on this day and I was very disappointed.
The restaurant itself looks warm, inviting and charming. I was greeted in a very warm and welcoming way which I totally appreciate. I will try them again another day and will definitely try different menu items next time! =D
Shrimp, cilantro, red onion, mint, shredded romaine, cabbage, carrot & Thai basil, wrapped in rice paper, served w. hoisin sauce topped w. peanuts} This appetizer was soo good and the sauce with peanuts was the closer in flavor. Wife and I decided we haven’t had fresh rolls since eating at a restaurant in Little Saigon in Oklahoma City in the 1990’s
A bottle of Wandering Poet sake was outstanding but the price – well- it’s too steep for me to buy again. No problem. The are plenty less pricey sakes on the menu.
Next I ordered Thai Fried Rice with added shrimp – Stir-fried Jasmine rice w. egg, garlic, onion, tomato, carrot, Asian green, scallion.
The plate of fried rice was so large I could only eat half of it. It’s a good item to share. BUT be careful sharing because this may very likely be the most delicious fried rice you have ever eaten. Oriental foods are my favorite and I have eaten it often for over 50 years, So listen when I say that this was THE BEST fried rice I have ever eaten.
The service was fast and excellent. Overall, another 5 star meal.
