Stopped here for lunch with my daughter. Drunken noodles and the panang curry had the right flavors. Satay and peanut sauce hit the mark as appetizers. Also ordered mango sticky rice for dessert. Rice was actually chewy, as you’d see in Thailand and other Asian countries. Worth the drive.

Thai 99 II is tucked away in a small strip mall off 29. There was only one other table taken at 5:30 on a Thursday evening in March. They did appear to have quite a few takeout orders. The interior is no frills with plain tables and chairs and a few wall decorations. Service was perfunctory. There was one guy seating, taking orders, delivering food and clearing tables. As we were leaving, another lady came out and started helping with checks and dirty dishes. At this point, it was 6:30 and four tables were taken. We ordered drinks first. The glass of Frei Brothers merlot was a decent size and tasted fine. The Tanqueray and tonic consisted mostly of tonic so I can’t recommend this. When the Jasmine rice is the highlight of the meal, something is amiss. The panang curry pork sauce had an overly peanut butter-y taste. I typically order panang curry and have never had the nut be so prominent. The fairly tough pork came with zucchini and peppers. While the shrimp mango had a nice presentation, it was disappointing. The plate came with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers and broccoli that had a bit of a crunch. The sauce was more on the side or underneath, not on top. The shrimp were awful. They either had a very fishy taste or a distinct watery, flavorless taste, and we could not finish them. All in all, not a good experience for us. We will have to give this restaurant a pass.

I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Thai ’99! The chicken in peanut sauce was excellent. The fried calamari is done tempura style, which I really enjoyed. I’ll definitely be back again.

We drove to C’Ville to get groceries from Trader Joe and others ……On our way back, we saw this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Tom yum shrimp soup, chicken satay, special volcano chicken, and curry puff are what we ordered.Everything was so authentic and delicious that we enjoyed every bite of the food. The curry puff was not something I would recommend if you don’t like sweet stuff as it was extremely sweet. We ended our meal with Thai custard which was 3/5 for me because it was extremely difficult to swallow because of its sweetness. If you are looking for authentic thai food please try this place

The restaurant is pretty inside and has a very nice atmosphere. Although I was getting carryout, the service was absolutely absolutely excellent. They have an entire area dedicated to carryout which has utensils, sauces, and almost anything you can think of for that carryout, lol. The person who handles carryout greets you and asks you what sauces and utensils you need.

Food was good but service was excruciatingly slow. Pick-ups seemed to have priority over those of us at the tables.

Starters: Spring rolls (Veg) is fresh but a little bit lack of diversification(lettuce and carrots). Fried tofu is actually not in starters menu, it’s under vegetarian part. It’s so good with the chili sauce (need to ask for it).

Great service, good food. My family and I had an enjoyable meal at the Thai ’99 restaurant while Christmas shopping. This was one of my kids first experiences at a Thai restaurant where they ordered something more than chicken satays or basic appetizers to munch. I love Drunken Noodles and they tasted just fine but the heat wasn’t there and I asked for hot…might need to risk it and go for Thai hot next time. My wife order either the Crispy Duck or the Thai ’99 Duck…whichever one it was, it was awesome. Super tasty and crispy with a wonderful sauce. My daughter went for some basic Egg Noodles, which suited her just fine. My son went for the Shrimp Mango but was disappointed but it really is his misunderstanding of to expect…he loves shrimp and mango but did not understand how it would get mixed together in a dish. I tasted it and it was just fine but definitely a bit on the sweeter side and I prefer the heat. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice.

This is a great restaurant. The service was prompt (our water glasses never fell below half-full), the Thai iced tea was delicious and the food was even better! I ordered the Pad Grapao which was delicious with garlic and basil and chicken. I loved that the rice came in the shape of a heart! And the prices were good too. I also got the shrimp spring rolls which were amazing with the peanut butter sauce but forgot to take pics of them.

I need to preface this review that this restaurant used to be 5 stars for me and my favorite Thai restaurant in Virginia. However tonight’s service was the worst I’ve experienced in years going there. I don’t know if this is temporary staff over the holidays or if there is new management there but the experience fell short in just about every way possible compared to previous visits. I was sat down and had my drink and food order taken. I watched other tables receive their drinks and food until mine finally was brought out. The calamari was cold and hard and the crispy duck was mild when I ordered spicy and most of it just stuck together in fried clumps instead of individual fried pieces of duck like in the past. I had to be asked again for my drink and finally got it after my meal came out. Then when I asked for a refill, what I assume was my first drink came out and it was flat as if it had been sitting out since I first came in and ordered. I hope that this is not a permanent change to this location, but wanted to express how much worse this was compared to previous visits and I would not return again unless I knew the previous wait staff and cooks would be available again.
