The setting is cool and all the staff were very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the food particularly the green bean tempura and kabocha. The butter mochi was tasty as well. The only item we were disappointed with were the Hokkaido scallops which tasted a bit fishy. Full disclosure, I love sushi/sashimi so I am extremely particular about freshness. We did not mention it because we were enjoying our evening. The cocktails were creative as well.

Terra Mae in Portland was an absolute standout. From the moment we arrived, our server Aleigha took incredible care of us attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming.

We started with the caffé arroz cocktails, which were beautifully balanced and set the tone for the evening. The hamachi crudo was amazing fresh, delicate, and perfectly seasoned. The udon pasta was absolutely delicious, rich and comforting without being heavy.

The steak was cooked perfectly, exactly as ordered, and the green bean tempura had the ideal crunch. To top it all off, the tuna tartar was phenomenal and a true highlight of the meal.

Every dish was thoughtful and executed flawlessly. We can’t wait to come back!

My first visit to Terra Mae. I’ve heard good things about this place. The Portuguese Japanese fusion concept sounded interesting. After a relaxing afternoon in the thermal springs, I made a reservation for dinner. It’s a beautiful space. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I’ll have to say I wasn’t impressed by any of the food. For such a high-end restaurant that’s overpriced. I really expected so much more. The wasabi salad was tasty. The Tonkatsu was the best thing we ordered. It reminded me of something I would’ve gotten at Tokyo Sando. I was kind of disappointed in the beef cheeks. It was melt in your mouth tender. But it had this beef stew, flavored quality that I just made. It seem like a really cheap dish. Not elevated at all.

I would definitely return to the thermal Springs. That was such a relaxing and wonderful experience.

Terra Mae in Portland is a really solid spot that’s worth checking out. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it great for a relaxed dinner or a casual night out. The food is flavorful and thoughtfully prepared—especially the seafood dishes, which taste fresh and well-seasoned. Drinks were good too! Portions are small, however the menu has enough variety to please different tastes.

We absolutely loved our dinner at Terra Mae. Every dish and cocktail was something I would order again (but when I come back I will likely try different things because so many menu items sounded delicious).
Cocktails were very well balanced, vibrant and fresh.
Tune tartare and octopus salad are great starter options. The linguica dumplings were super rich with the curry. Perfect pairing. The beef cheek literally melted in my mouth. Its so tender and it is the chef’s family recipe thats been passed down from generations which is a very loving touch.
The team running Terra Mae are amazing. Excellent service adding to a great experience. Our Server was also very helpful with recs as well.
Added touch thats great for cold/rainy weather, they have coat check!

Terra Mae has been on my radar since shortly after opening, and I’m glad I finally made the time to go. What a lovely Christmas Eve date with my partner.

We sat near the nearly open kitchen, which is always my preferred seat, especially when BOH and FOH are humming. From the start, it was clear the place was well run — the GM was on the floor, and the dining room felt calm even though we were there toward the tail end of dinner service.

We ordered the full meal at once and left the pacing to the staff. That’s not something I usually do, but it felt right here, and they handled it beautifully. The meal unfolded naturally, with each course arriving when it made sense. Nothing felt rushed or stacked, even later in the evening.

We ordered: Octopus Salad, Negi Toro Handroll (not pictured), Mentaiko Udon, Duck Duck Rice, and Lamb Ribs.

The food was excellent — thoughtful, balanced, and satisfying without being heavy. All of the dishes were composed with restraint and intention: no unnecessary flourishes, just confident cooking and strong flavors that worked well together.

Cocktails were equally solid. A Sazerac (half rye, half cognac) was properly balanced and paired nicely with the menu. This is often my litmus test for any bar program, and this was one of the best in town.

Service throughout the night was attentive, calm, and well paced. When a whole snapper we had ordered ended up being 86’d, it was handled professionally and without disrupting the flow of the meal, which I appreciated.

At the end of the night, I asked our server to pass along my compliments to the chefs. The food and the overall experience warranted it.

For the level of execution, hospitality, and experience — especially with kitchen seating and multiple cocktails — the value felt fair.

Terra Mae is a place that rewards trust. If you let the team do what they do well, they deliver a meal that feels considered, grounded, and memorable.

We’ll be back for sure!

Great place you are seated much faster with reservation. My waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu items. I had very fast and constant service at the bar seat. The food was wonderful and it had a great atmosphere. I could see it being a romantic date spot.

Such a great experience. The food is incredible and very unique. The mentaiko udon is a must, it was like my taste buds were watching a movie. There was a whole build up, climax, and conclusion in every bite. We also got the yellowtail crudo, dumplings, and green beans… all very yummy too. For dessert you have to get the apple cake. It comes with a scoop of ginger vanilla ice cream. I like ginger but it’s usually a bit overwhelming, but the ginger was just right in this one.

The staff is also so incredibly kind. I stupidly made the reservation for the wrong date, but they still seated us with only a 10 minute wait even though they were booked out for 2 weeks. It was pricey, but totally worth it.

From the minute you speak to the hostess you get a sense that they want you to have a wonderful time. They checked in our coats and took us to our table. Michael who was our server greeted us and offered some food and drinks recommendations. We ended up ordering the house milk bread, yellowtail crudo, handroll of the day, dumplings, mentaiko udon and the binchotan handroll for our small plates. Everything was amazing, but the yellowtail crudo was the crown jewel, we loved it so much that we placed a second order. For the large dish, we ordered the duck duck rice, which was flavorful and well cooked. The atmosphere was lively and you can tell people are really enjoying themselves. The staff at Terra Mae truly want you to have a good time. Thank you Michael 10/10

Our cousins took us to this amazing restaurant that has a very interesting Japanese Portuguese fusion concept. They pull it off amazingly well. Everything was delicious. Service was phenomenal, and prices were high but worth it. Tapas style. Reservations highly recommended.
