Dinner:
– Chicken liver pate: very tasty with the caramelized onions but we found the kettle chips really oily and left most of it untouched. Not sure what the “roots” mentioned on the menu were though as we didn’t see anything. We ended up eating the pate with the toasted buttered sourdough that came with the House Sausage instead (so good! we asked for more bread, forgot to check if they charged extra but worth it!).
– House sausage: A little dry but it paired well with the sauerkraut and grainy mustard. The toasted buttered sourdough seemed a bit misplaced with the sausage to be quite honest… we ended up eating it with the pate.
-Terra Poutine: Tasty and good portion size. The gravy was a bit salty but we generally eat low sodium at home (i.e., we don’t add salt to our cooking) so it could be us. We still thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was one of the better poutines that we’ve had.
Brunch:
– Salmon Benedict: Good portion size and I enjoyed it. The kale was a nice addition that I did not think I’d enjoy but I did! The salmon gravlax was a bit salty to me but, again, it could be just me.
-Buttermilk Pancakes with a side order of sausage (not pictured): Pancakes were nice and fluffy, blueberries and sauce was not too sweet and had some tartness to it. Side order of sausage was seasoned well but was a bit dry though.
For the main course there was steak and salmon. Steak was excellent, salmon was cooked to perfection. However since I am not a fennel fan and I didn’t particularly care for the bean-tomatoe mix I mainly just had the salmon.
For dessert we had cheesecake and creme brulee. Both absolutely delightful.
Our server Becca was incredible, very friendly and attentive. We had an incredible evening thanks to her.
We ordered a charcuterie board, but as shown in the attached photo, what we received was simply a plate with nine pieces of salami—something that was quite disappointing and unexpected.
The chicken dish we ordered for dinner was not bad in terms of taste, though the portion size was quite small.
Overall, while the setting is lovely and may be worth visiting once, I don’t see myself returning or recommending it to friends.
