Tenn Street Coffee & Books

Social Profile:

We serve coffee, but we’re not your typical coffee shop. Inspired by the great cafés of Europe, where conversation blooms, and writers, artists, activists, and intellectuals make their mark, we’ve made a conscious decision to slow things down. Come and stay awhile.

Cafe & bookseller boasting free WiFi, live music & art shows in a brick storefront with patio.

Was visiting a friend in Denver and needed to get some work done on the trip. Happened upon this coffee shop and was able to get everything I needed done! Great coffee, comfy chairs/tables, lots of outlets, and quiet environment. Also the local art pieces on the walls are all super cool!

To the woman with the gray/purplish mohawk: you should not be working in a coffee house. Please take your misery and work somewhere without customers because it seems like you despise interacting with them. Will not say “hi” back, barely says a word when taking money or handing you your drink, will have you stand there waiting at the register while she does not acknowledge you, then treats you like you’re a burden for ordering. Sorry to post a 1-star, Tenn Street Coffee & Books, but she is going to run off more customers than me. Other baristas are friendly, and the atmosphere is good otherwise

One of my favorite coffee shops for working, and I have tried a ton in Denver. It has a bright, cozy, mini library vibe and good sized tables for groups. Side street parking is easy to find too. An underrated little shop for sure

The only reason I go to this place is because it’s so bad no one else goes here so it’s the quietist place on Tennyson. Drip tastes like dirt water, baristas don’t acknowledge you when you’re trying to order, has live/laugh/love energy. But certainly isn’t crowded and you can always get a table to work.

Husband and I have been trying small batch coffee shops for about 2 years now. We live in Aurora but our chiropractor is in Arvada so we travel the I-70 corridor quite a bit. For some reason, Tenn St has NEVER come up in my searches until this morning! What?! Husband used to attend networking meetings down the street at the Cozy Cottage and did not know the coffee shop was there! So crazy. But I fell in love the minute we walked in the door! As a book lover, how could you not?! It’s so cozy and welcoming and charming and…. You get my point. The vinyl station is just How unique! It’s clean and the baristas were friendly. We did not utilize the restroom or have food so I can’t comment on those. The parking seems to be all street and when I say all, that makes it sound like there’s more/easy parking. I would not say that. And the coffee is ok. It’s not great but it’s not bad by any means. Just not as flavorful as expected. We got vanilla lattes and they prob’ly just needed more vanilla but they were busy so we didn’t want to bother. It wasn’t that serious. Coffee for us can’t taste like coffee so…. The coffee wasn’t bitter tasting or super strong or anything so it was fine. And we had the best conversation with another customer! I love that! I think we’ll come back in two weeks on the way to our next appt.

My coworker and I came here to hangout and it’s a very cute place. There is a place to even choose your own black coffee. I haven’t seen that since pre-Covid times. There are books and records to look through. This place is very cozy

I was really looking forward to visiting this place: I love coffee and books! The coffee was okay. The atmosphere could have been better. Not much love put in this place… Everything was really sticky… The barista was not very warm. That was a bummer.

**Updating my previous review** We’ve been here many times and while we always prioritize supporting local businesses, we stopped going here because the female employee with the gray hair is the worst. Doesn’t talk, just ignores you and takes your money. We live close and would love to return, but can’t bring ourselves to spend money at this place anymore.

It’s always nice to run into new cafes/bookstores – this is a lovely place to stop by quickly or pass a few hours. The espresso was good but probably not in itself a reason to stop. There are only a few books, so don’t expect lots of variety or options, though it’s still nice to browse them. The vibe is great!
