I lived in Japan for 15 years. The foods here satisfied my Japanese food cravings. In some ways, the sashimi are superior to what I ate in Japan. One way is the size of the slice and another is the quality- very good!

Two critiques I have: the spicy ramen I ate was no where near spicy enough. It was very good and I did not want to alter the taste, but not spicy enough. The server offered to put more hot oil in for me, but I declined. In Japan they bring out a carrier with minced garlic and hot oil for you to portion yourself. This would improve the ramen experience. The other critique is putting corn in with the ramen. My Japanese sons agreed that corn belongs in children’s ramen. This could be Japan regional, and it is only an opinion.

Also, I loved the takoyaki!

It took a little over half an hour for the rolls to come out because there was one sushi chef. I ordered the salmon avocado roll that had varying amounts of each in every bite. The roll fell apart easily but it was satisfactory. The salmon sashimi was nice and thick enough to stand on its own – not too fatty. The rainbow roll had imitation crab and was a nice mouthful. My partner got the ramen that came out very quickly while I had nothing. It was incredibly frustrating to see party’s that arrived after us receive their food first. My partners food was completely cold waiting for my food to come so we could eat together. The wait staff and management wears pajamas and sweatpants as bottoms so I wouldn’t worry about looking nice to dine in. The restaurant came highly recommended so it was a bit of a let down.

Had a great dining experience here. The service was awesome and the food was really good.
Loved the tuna tartare — you can tell they use high-quality tuna. The lamb chops were also delicious.
Ramen is consistently great as always.
Will definitely come back!

This is my favorite restaurant in UIUC; I’ve been there almost every week. It stays open quite late, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious, especially the sukiyaki hot pot and the sushi and sashimi, which are incredibly fresh. The desserts are also amazing. You should definitely check it out!

A gem in the downtown area! Attentive service with great food and a calm atmosphere. The Oyster Mushroom yakitori was an absolute highlight, especially for the price. I have friends in the Bloomington area who always ask to come here when they visit. Appreciate that they’re open until 2AM on Fridays/Saturdays, which is rare for restaurants in town

The lemonade was smooth and not too sour, which I really liked. The garlic tonkotsu ramen wasn’t spicy at all, so even the kids could enjoy it. My two-year-old has a habit of wiggling his body when he eats something he likes, but this time, not only did he wiggle, he also said “the best!” and gave a thumbs-up! The rice in the nigiri sushi was a bit much and slightly dry, but the sushi rolls were absolutely amazing—they just melt in your mouth. The atmosphere is great, the food is delicious, and the rewards and service are excellent overall. You can really feel that they are always thinking about how to improve their service, which makes me want to come back again.☺️

This was easily one of the best Japanese dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.

The ingredients were incredibly fresh, especially the seafood — you can truly taste the quality in every bite. The sashimi was delicate, clean, and perfectly cut, while the sushi rice was seasoned just right and paired beautifully with the fish. Every dish felt carefully prepared and thoughtfully presented.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and elegant, creating a very comfortable dining environment. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations without being intrusive.

What impressed me most was the consistency — from the appetizers to the main dishes, everything was outstanding. You can tell this place takes pride in authenticity and quality.

I will definitely be coming back and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates real Japanese cuisine.

The sukiyaki was amazing — rich and comforting without being too heavy, and the ingredients soaked up the flavor perfectly. The salmon was very fresh and smooth, with great texture. Everything felt well prepared and high quality. Would definitely come back again. Our server, Tanya, was amazing. She was very friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. Her service really elevated the whole dining experience

Ramen was super tasty! The Spicy Miso is definitely a winner, but I can’t wait to try the rest. The owner came out to greet us and we had a great chat.
