Finally a great South Indian restaurant in Oxford. We visited this restaurant for dinner yesterday and really enjoyed every bit of the food we had!
We ordered Chicken 65, Chicken Lollipop, and Veg Cutlet as starters all of them were delicious. My kid especially loved the Chicken 65!
For the main course, we had Veg Biryani, which came with raita. The biryani was flavorful, though the raita quantity could have been a bit more. We also ordered Parotta, which was fresh, soft, and tasted amazing.
The only small downside was that the waiting time was a bit long, but apart from that, everything else was great. Literally every dish we ordered was flavourful and tasted amazing. We’d definitely visit again!

I had a wonderful experience savoring such delicious food. I have never before tasted such authentic Kerala cuisine, and the best part is that it is located in Cowley. If you are missing home, I highly recommend visiting this establishment. After many months, my taste buds are truly satisfied, and the service provided by the staff was incredibly heartwarming.

The appam was so good—soft, fresh, and perfectly made. The butter chicken was absolutely yummy and tasty, with a rich, creamy flavor that paired beautifully with the appam. The chicken biryani was also excellent, full of flavor and cooked just right. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered the biryani twice. Overall, a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend this place to everyone.

My first time at this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the sever Harsh was so helpful. I had the best veg samosa I have ever tasted. The vegetarian paneer butter masla and kerala parotta was outstanding and not too expensive. Whenever I visit Oxford I will definitely return to Tender Coconut.

Tender Coconut on Cowley Road is amazing! The food tastes so fresh and authentic, especially the dosas and Kerala-style curries. The place feels warm, the service is friendly, and the portions are totally worth the price. Definitely one of the best South Indian spots in Oxford.

Absolutely delicious South Indian food. I’ve been a few times now, and had a wonderful prawn and mango curry on my most recent visit – just the right amounts of spicy and tangy. The food can take a while to come but if you’re not in a hurry, I do highly recommend this. The waiting time is testament to the fact that each dish is freshly prepared for the order!

This is an amazing place to have authentic Kerala food. Parotta, Idiappam, Chicken Fry and Chicken Roast are must to try. Also try kappa biriyani. We loved and my son even called the chef and shared his good feed back.

Just had an outstanding meal at Tender Coconut.

This was my first time coming, and we were immediately made to feel extremely welcome.

The staff were thoughtful about where best to position us in the restaurant. Very prompt at taking the orders as well, and provided us with some excellent recommendations from the menu and helped to capture exactly what we wanted.

The food came out and was also phenomenal. I believe they also cook in coconut oil which is a huge plus for me.

Will definitely be back.

I probably would’ve given a higher rating had I not ordered dessert, which was extremely disappointing. The staff were super friendly and welcoming throughout. However once the restaurant got busier, it did take a while for the table to be cleared.

As other reviews have pointed out, the food can take a little while to come out, and it also didn’t all come out at the same time with a short wait between things.

I enjoyed the masala dosa, the sambal was really yummy but the dosa was quite cold, especially after having to wait for others to get their food. We also ordered butter paneer and the prawn mango curry. The food was fairly nice, but I’m not sure we would be returning for anything other than dosa. We all really enjoyed the mango lassi.

The dessert was not good and I would not recommend ordering anything. The gulab jamun was nice, but not for £5. I would also much prefer if it were served in a bowl and not a glass. The sticky toffee pudding portion was also quite small, and just tasted like a plain sponge with a little sauce. The ice cream served with both desserts had a very weird icy texture, like it had been freezer burnt or refrozen.

I would also recommend wearing clothes that can be easily washed. I haven’t factored this into my review at all, but there doesn’t seem to be enough ventilation and we all left smelling heavily of food which is quite unpleasant.
