I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ted’s Restaurant, a southern eatery in Birmingham Alabama. The cafeteria-style setup added a touch of nostalgia to the dining experience, and it was a delight to see Ted, the actual owner, actively involved in serving the food and ensuring that guests were having a wonderful time.

We were on the way to gulf shores and were in need of a place to eat for lunch. My husband is a lover of diners, so when I saw Ted’s appear on our google search I knew we found our place. From the moment we walked in until the time we left, we were shown hospitality. The staff were friendly and patient in helping us navigate the food options when ordering. The owner was super friendly and our kids were instant fans when conversation turned to talking about soccer with him. I would definitely recommend this place for those who want a meal that is reminiscent of eating at your southern grandparents house for Sunday lunch. For meat we had the baked chicken and tilapia. Sides ordered were macaroni and cheese, zucchini and squash medley, corn bread, potatoes, and a coconut cream pie. It was all very good, comfort food that kids and adults alike enjoyed. We were going to stop again on our way home, but timing wise it didn’t work out. Hopefully next time around we will be able to stop back in:)

Food was kept fresh on the buffet, and it was a hard choice because everything looked so good. Fried chicken and pork kabobs were both excellent. Sides were decent and good portions. Wait staff was extra helpful since it was our first visit.

Went to brunch this past Saturday. Had their Breakfast sandwich and sweet tea. The bacon egg and cheese sandwich was excellent and ample. The service was responsive and polite. Though there are only a couple dozen tables and their brunch service is popular so be prepared to wait for a table. They are celebrating fifty years of business this year and they maintain some old school vibes on the inside. I might make this a weekly tradition going forward.

Saturday brunch here was a wonderful experience. We were sat right away though warned the food would be a wait. We were happy to sit and soak in the small diner vibe. The food was hot and tasty. The service was friendly. We even picked up a few souvenir t-shirts and banana pudding for the road. What a treat!

Tremendously tasty brunch … plus not many places have chicken sausage. The potatoes have a seasoning that is absolutely delicious while the grits are perfect. The atmosphere is fantastically retro, like a diner in Mayberry. Owners and wait staff are extremely friendly. It is definitely a home run especially if you have out of towners. Three thumbs up if that is possible!

Went there for the first time and it was fantastic. Down home southern cooking. I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, fried okra, and collard greens.

So great! We stopped on the way to the gulf shores with my 1 and 4 year old and they were very accommodating. We came on a Saturday for brunch and the Food was amazing. Loved the biscuits and gravy. Waffles were great and chicken. Joanna was our server and she was so pleasant and we loved her lip stick! The owner even checked on us! Definitely recommend. Only downfall was no changing table for the baby, but we managed. Would definitely stop here again!

First time visitor. The food is not seasoned much. If you are looking for a low sodium meal then this is your place. I tried the greens, yams and cabbage. The yams and the cornbread stood out.
