One of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to, for not just food, but atmosphere, ambiance and attentive service. Not having been in New Haven extensively and knowing the amount of options of all types of food beyond pizza, mexican was our craving, and that had many choices that all looked excellent. This choice was beyond what we hoped for.
When we entered, the bartender acknowledged us right away with seating options, followed by the host and a server to make sure we were welcomed. Another server came within 2 mins with utensils, waters filled and how to see the menu. Given an appropriate amount of time to see some starters and drinks, that part of the order was taken. Appetizers came out hot and ready in about 10 mins. The nachos were an excellent start as a light starter, and the mango margaritas hit the spot. We decided on tacos for our first visit- steak tacos and the other was chicken fajitas tacos- exceptional!!! The menu is based on mainly tacos and quesadillas, rice bowls, soups, salads, rice bowls, cocktails and desserts. One of the amazing aspects of Te Amo is that there are Happy hour specials EVERYDAY from 12 to 7pm. The restaurant is mixed with 2 tops, 4 seat tables and larger option booths with bar seating. One seating side is seperated from the bar and may be a tad quieter with a view of the kitchen. But even the main seating and bar side was open and comfortable and able to have conversations beyond the crowd, tvs and workforce doing their jobs. The servers and staff were all very attentive and caring for their patrons and made it a very positive and happy environment. I highly recommend Te Amo for apps, lunch, dinner, cocktails – any mix or all of it. I look forward to going back and enjoying this restaurant very much!

The prices are great and there’s happy hour everyday from 12-7 which is beyond amazing.
The food was so delicious and filling. Service was good. The drinks were good too especially for happy hour. No complaints!

This was my third time dining here so I knew the food would be delicious..!! However I did not anticipate such a generous and friendly hostess!!! Lissette was exactly everything anyone would want in a server. She made sure we had our cups and belly’s full. She was kind, courteous and friendly.. willingly engaged in conversation. Tacos were amazing as always and the vibe is very up to par… higher recommend to anyone for Taco Tuesday.. thank me later..!!!

A wonderful place to come to celebrate and or when you are feeling down. It is truly a festive atmosphere all the time. Everyone is welcome and treated like family. Service couldn’t be better. Food is always hot and lots to take home.They read my mind when ever need something. Ask for Edalyn. She is the Best!! One of the few places that actually have a real happy hour. Not only are the drinks spectacular at happy hour but there is yummy food too! We always stop in before a show at Shubert Theater in plenty of time to make curtain. By the way happy hour is til 7:00pm. We stopped in after the show and had time to dance a little before heading home. They have a Great DJ!!!

The picture might not show a dish or drink but let me tell you, the food is really good, and the drinks are great. The bartenders are extremely engaging. Kind and very considerate of your needs. Even in the rush of happy hour, food and drinks are just not missed. They get it out and you literally can not go wrong with any selection. The staff is equally engaging. They make up the vibe of the restaurant and will also engage with you whether you are at the bar or at the tables. You would be mistaken to think you can pass this up. Make this a spot you absolutely visit. You will not regret it. And of course treat the people with respect. They are more than deserving of that with the level of service they provide. If you don’t believe me, please see for yourself. It’s a gem of a spot.

I stumbled in here on a Tuesday hungry for Tacos and got sucked in by the music, atmosphere and margaritas (Passion fruit is my fave). Jess and Hanna took very good care of me and kept me entertained and inebriated (responsibly of course lol). Te Amo is definitely a must go if your Downtown New Haven! Cheers to them 🙂

I’m so glad we finally had the opportunity for a meal at Te Amo! This is definitely one of my new favorites for Mexican in New Haven. We found all of the food to be delicious, especially the queso and rice bowl. Generous sizes for the tacos with great happy hour and taco Tuesday deals. Great drinks and dessert as well, with very friendly staff. Our server was helpful and gave great recommendations, and the manager also checked in a few times and was very friendly. We’ll be back!

Update-1/11/25- I went again this time for dinner, wasn’t as good as before, menu changed a bit. The service was good. I went for lunch while in New Haven on Saturday, and it was packed. No wait time, but it was busy. The atmosphere was nice, the music was off, hard rock music at a Mexican restaurant..lol..wowww…We sat next to a group of couples who helped us navigate the menu, they were great. Everything was really good, we enjoyed the food and dessert, the drinks were strong enough and they tasted good. The server was really nice she made sure we got what we wanted, We don’t eat pork, so a lot of the pork items we changed to chicken with no issue. I would definitely be back to try more off the menu.
