Tavern on the Square opened in 2010 and quickly became a staple in the Haymarket. It has a large outdoor courtyard surrounded by brick buildings built in the late 1800s. There is nothing like a warm summer day in the courtyard. You will quickly feel like a regular on your first visit. Our advice is to rub elbows with the clowns that are bellied up at the bar. 😀

Visiting from Dallas and this place didn’t disappoint. The drinks were great and strong, the people and bartender were all super hospitable. There’s a Cheers poster in the bathroom and this place lives up to the reference! I even got a little bonus…got to flip a coin with the bartender for a chance at half off my tab and i won the coin toss!

Lots of fun and good conversations at the Haymarket, with nice weather you can sit outside, enjoy a good drink and company, it is also pet friendly, I believe it would be better if they had a leashed dog policy, I saw some unleashed dogs around.

Bar tenders were great. They seem to be staffed appropriately, so you can get a drink quickly. I was downtown for a concert, and everything was packed, including the Tavern, and went there twice that night because of their service.
