Social Profile:

Magical is a word thrown around a lot when discussing Tavern On The Green and one can’t help but feel magic in the air. Jim and David, architect Richard Lewis and landscape architect Robin Key, preserved the Victorian/ Gothic elegance of the semi-circular building; it is authentic, natural, elegant and sexy. It has been re-built to spectacular precision and the décor is of a grand farmhouse one might find on the property of an Italian Villa or a historic Hudson River Valley mansion. Dress Code: Smart Casual. Jacket and Tie are Not Required. * No athletic attire.

Restored Central Park icon for American fare in an elegant setting with courtyard & garden seating.

What a fantastic lunch we enjoyed here today. It was truly an experience. The venue was stunning. Well decorated, it felt like stepping into a gingerbread house. The decor was incredible. The food was really tasty. The drinks, desserts, and even the coffee were delightful. The service were very attentive, even though the place was super busy. We received the attention we needed. The only downside was the lack of a parking lot, requiring a walk of about a block to reach a garage, but that’s to be expected in New York City. This is definitely a spot I recommend for both tourists and locals, especially during the holiday season.

The date I visited coincided with New York Restaurant Week… and I was able to enjoy their special menu. Honestly, the food at this restaurant was delicious. Even though I’m not usually a big fan of Western cuisine, I really enjoyed it. The view was also great, the restaurant atmosphere was wonderful, and the service from the manager to the staff was very attentive. Of course, the tip started at 20%

The glass-encased area is a gorgeous place to be for brunch. Service was good, but interesting choices were made re: triage of task completion. We sat for a few minutes staring at our main course waiting for new flatware. Not a huge issue I guess, but eggs don’t hold well, even after just a few minutes. There were too many people on the floor for there not to be a more efficient procedure for this.

Biscuits and gravy – if you’re from the south (we’re TN natives), skip this. The gravy was bland and the biscuit was really more of a scone. They attempted to ellevate a staple from another region, but instead just made a worse version of it.
Onion soup – fine; we’ve had worse, but we’ve had better, too.
Steak and Eggs – not a fan, but I’ll give the concession that I may just not like this cut of meat personally; maybe if you like sirloin, your feelings would be opposite mine. I’m a rare fillet guy myself, so its toughness was off-putting. The potatoes were just not good thanks to the addition of bell peppers overpowering the entire side dish. All I could taste was over-cooked, mushy bell pepper; it was like no other seasoning in it at all. We found on our trip that the higher the prices are, the less flavorful the food is; Tavern on the Green is the prime example of this. The over-easy eggs were cooked perfectly.
Eggs Benny (w/ Lobster) – I don’t have enough experience with lobster to make this claim with much authority, but my heart told me the lobster was dry and overdone. Same potato situation. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly; why are we only nailing the cheapest part of these dishes?

Look, it’s a cute spot. That’s about all I can offer though because the prices they’re charging for what you’re eating are insulting.

A landmark restaurant on the edge of Central Park. We visited for Christmas brunch and were very pleased with the four course tasting menu. The service was attentive and professional and the food was simple but elegantly executed. The halibut was exceptionally prepared and was my favorite dish of the day. The homemade bloody marys were some of the best we have had.

At first, I was skeptical of the location. Thinking it might be touristy and lack on all fronts because of that. However, I was very pleased to find out it is amazing. My food was served hot. It was cold outside and the ambiance was warm and inviting. Live music started while I was there. Our server, Sara, was great. The fish was crispy. They had no problem accommodating gf, df allergies. Highly recommend a walk or run in Central Park and a meal at Tavern On the Green. Memories for a lifetime here.

We were at Tavern on the Green to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. The food was outstanding as was the service. We were asked if we were celebrating anything and upon hearing it was our anniversary we received a card from the managing partners, Jim and David. The card was placed on our table visible to staff and many stopped as they were passing to give their well wishes. This made us feel so special. We received a gratis box of truffles on a beautifully decorated plate to help us celebrate. This was such a lovely experience. The only reason I rated atmosphere 4 stars instead of 5 was because the noise level was high as there were several tables around us with children. It wasn’t quite as romantic as we had hoped.

The atmosphere, the history, the architecture, the preservation, the welcoming elegance, the impeccable attention to detail…I love this beautiful place. From the moment you step in it’s as if you stepped into a 1940s Christmas card, and when I’m away too live in California I miss it.
I admit I wish the lunch selection was a little wider, still options for a pescatarian, went with the tofu eggplant which was warm comfort food. My partner got the brick chicken loved it and didn’t find any brick lol.
If you’ve never been, and at going around the holidays, plan early and make reservations. I did see people walk up and get in and I was that lucky once before.
Look around, walk through the restaurant, soak it in. The master craftsmen that built this place are long gone and nothing will ever be built like this again. There’s even a gift shop full of beautiful things of which I own a few!
Bless Jim Caiola and David Salama (Emerald Green Group) who spent 20 million (yes) restoring this landmark in 2014. I am grateful for their vision and dedication!

Beautiful ambience with lots of lights and a stunning interior. We sat outdoors, the service was excellent, everyone was kind and attentive. Food was well plated and very good: honey roasted figs and roasted baby octopus to start, grilled whole fish and pan-roasted sea bass for mains, and a cherry meringue tart for dessert. Would definitely come back!

Beautiful place to stop and have a coffee or lunch when in Central Park.
Booking is advised but if you haven’t and the wait is too long, they have the bar area where you can also eat and drink. It’s very pretty and cosy plus there is a roaring fire, perfect for these winter days.
We had lunch in the restaurant and the food was delicious. Service was excellent.

Beautiful and historical restaurant! Would come back just for the ambiance. The brunch food is great but nothing extraordinary and we had to wait for 30+ minutes despite having a reservation. I really enjoyed the frittata, which was flavorful despite my hesitancy from some of the reviews here. My friends loved the burger.
