This was my first time going back to Sam’s Pizza since I moved away at 13. I’m now 24, and sadly, it was nothing like I remembered.
When I arrived, I tried calling to place my order. A young girl answered and immediately hung up. Since I was already outside, I decided to just walk in. The building had a strange smell, and they weren’t busy at all, but I didn’t say anything and placed my order anyway. The girl who took my order was the same one who hung up on me.
I was told a 20-minute wait, which turned into about 30 minutes. I didn’t mind the extra wait because I used to love this pizza and stromboli growing up. I was told the stromboli was the reason for the delay.
Once we got the food and started driving back to Ohio, I tried it. The stromboli sandwich had a completely soggy top bun while only the bottom was crispy. The pizza was only crispy on the outside and felt undercooked inside. Even my 5-year-old, who loves pizza, said it was disgusting.
If I hadn’t already been an hour and a half away with another five and a half hours left to drive, I would’ve turned around immediately. It was a really disappointing experience and definitely not the same quality it was 10–15 years ago.
I would recommend taking the extra time to go to Sam’s Pizza in Sturgis, KY, where the food quality has always been consistent and never disappointing.

Has been the BEST PIZZA PLACE in Union County since I have been alive!! (38 years) A must stop when in the area. Call ahead as it’s pick up pizza place only. Una Pizza joints are always THE BEST! RECOMMEND HIGHLY. Great sandwiches, pizzas and love their Bosco Cheese Stix with Garlic Butter!! Yummy!
