Despite living in Chicago for over a decade, I somehow managed to never step foot in Tavern on Rush. A personal failing, really. So when they opened their new, massive space, I decided Restaurant Week was the perfect time to finally correct history.
The room is huge — dark, polished, and clearly built to handle everything from quiet Sunday dinners to full-tilt social energy. On a Sunday night, the volume was pleasantly moderate, though you can absolutely tell this place knows how to turn it up when the moment calls for it.
Dinner started with a Caesar salad that was fresh, crisp, and exactly what a Caesar should be when it respects itself. I followed with the skirt steak, cooked perfectly and paired with chimichurri that did all the talking — it needed nothing more than a light pinch of salt.
The branzino was also generously sized and thoroughly enjoyed, holding its own against the steak without trying to compete.
I fully leaned into the cocktail pairing menu, which was delightful, well thought out, and eventually required someone else to drive me home. No regrets.
Dessert was a single scoop of gelato, which sounds modest until you taste it. Be bold. Choose the cherry.
Service was top notch, exactly what you’d expect from a place with this much Chicago dining history behind it — polished, attentive, and professional without being stiff.
All told: worth the wait, worth the reputation, and worth wondering why it took me this long to finally show up.

The food is amazing! I love coming here for dinner with my friends. The atmosphere is so beautiful and the staff is so nice. You can tell they really care about their customers. The manager even gave my girls and I a complimentary champagne to make the girls night even better! Highly recommend their ladies night as well where they give away a pair of shoes!

Love everything about this. For a quiet lunch, ask to eat upstairs. Lovely atmosphere and great service. We come back here when we are in the city at lunchtime for a predictably meal. Would highly recommend.

I am a long-time Chicago resident & fan. Of the many aspects to embrace in this city, our culture of excellent cuisine and memorable dining stands distinctive.
Up until a few months ago, Tavern on Rush was not in my sample volume. Seemed trendy before and contrary to my preference for calm moments during dinner.
A manager- Margo- well-known and admired from past dining experiences encouraged a visit.
If you thrive on quieter spaces like me, head upstairs. It’s a different space; a different pace and quite a few decibels softer.
Then the food shows up; three visits now, each with varying dishes and all with expert presentation and excellent dining; e.g., Dover Sole & Brussels Sprouts leaves. Outstanding. And a wine list by the glass with legit choices; plus attentive & kind service (shoutout- Andrea).
I’ll return. Often.

The single Patty Dick’s hamburger is the bomb! It’s pretty hard to find a single Patty that you can order medium or medium rare in Chicago where double Patty smash burgers rule. Omar is great! He was on top of everything and made me feel very at home.

The bar is stunning, beautifully designed with just the right balance of style and warmth. It’s the kind of place you want to linger, whether you’re sipping something classic or trying one of their creative cocktails.

It’s prime for people-watching — grab a seat near the window or outside and you’ve got a front-row view of the city’s characters and charm passing by. Lovely place! The vibe and atmosphere here is great. It’s got a hustle and bustle feel to it while also feeling very swanky and posh. Outdoor seating is available but it is right off the street. Indoor is great but it is loud inside. Lots of tvs around playing the games too! Bartenders were friendly and so was one of the managers, gosh! I wish I got his name. He was super friendly and liked my nails lol. Food was ok. Nothing special. Had the ceasar salad and rock shrimp.

I always have such a great experience thanks to Margo! She genuinely goes out of her way to make sure everything is perfect and that you feel taken care of from start to finish. You can tell she really cares about the guest experience, and it makes a huge difference.
Also have to give a big shoutout to Izzy and Cash behind the bar amazing bartenders, great energy, and excellent drinks. They definitely added to the vibe of the night.

Such a memorable experience celebrating our friends’ birthday. Agim and his staff are truly the best. From service to food, this restaurant delivers. Favorites on the menu are the tuna tartare, kale and apple salad, and truffle fries. Thanks so much for everything!
