My visits to taste place have always been marvelously pleasant. The restaurant is located near the middle of the plaza making it very easy to get too. Taste place offers a wide selection of tantalizing dishes ranging from succulent meats to refreshing vegetables, and that’s without even mentioning the hotpots they offer. The ratio between portion sizes and prices are quite affordable. This establishment is perfect for a date, and the lovely staff help make it feel very welcoming. They also have carryout as well as online ordering which pairs well with their rewards system.

The food is absolutely delicious every single time I am coming back here.
I’m not a fan of seafood, but their dishes are flavored and savory. Best place if you love delicious spicy food.
Always coming back to this place whenever I am in town.

I would give a one star because COVID protocols were not followed. One of the waiters was reckless, unmasked, and next to our faces. However, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt as he was truly just trying to be friendly. The hot pot was very average and not at all worth your money (unless you want the “experience”). However, the braised beef and potato was very tasty. I will be going back to try their other traditional Chinese dishes.

I LOVE the Szechuan dry pot!! I add fresh tofu. I live outside of Columbia and if I come to the city, I always want to eat here so I can have this dish. The tingly sensation from the Szechuan pepper is perfect, and the texture of the things inside (wood ear mushroom, cabbage, bean curd skin, and rice noodles) are wonderfully diverse. Also, the portion size of this particular dish is quite large. I can save it for several meals afterward!

Simply and authentically amazing! Easily the best Chinese restaurant in Missouri (perhaps Midwest). And I have frequented many!
Ask for the traditional menu and ask what’s good.
Chicken with cumin.
Dandan noodles.
Eggplant, Potato, and Pepper dish.
The best eggplant I’ve had in the States. Was nice and crisp on the outside with the soft eggplant texture inside. These guys do it right.
Will come here again!

I ordered grilled fish, the whole fish with bones. When I went to pick it up, they told me it was boneless fish, I said it’s fine, but when I made it home I found what I got was fish fillets. None of the side dishes I ordered were included—they just threw in random stuff. I won’t be ordering from them again.

As someone from China, I can guarantee you that this restaurant is very authentic. All my Chinese friends agree it’s the most authentic Chinese restaurant in CoMo. I ordered braised chicken 黄焖鸡, which was stewed and came in a stone pot. The ingredients were very fresh, presented and cooked to perfection. The portion is also huge—enough to feed two people!
Reading the reviews, I find many American customers probably did not have the correct expectation about authentic Chinese food. It’s normal to find slices of pork fat, whole garlic cloves, and large chunks of ginger in the dishes. Please be more open to trying new things when you order from the authentic menu. Otherwise the American Chinese menu is also not bad!
