From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warmth, personality, and a dash of humor. Jayme, who is one of the owners is the type of person who makes you feel like you’ve been friends forever. Funny, a bit sarcastic, and refreshingly genuine.
The food we had was a masterpiece, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. It’s the kind of food that just melts in your mouth, leaving you craving more with every bite. I’m so stuffed and feel like I can barely move. This place is not stingy with their servings that’s for sure! From dinner to dessert, everything was flawless. Honestly, this isn’t just the best food in Lake Tahoe; it’s some of the best I’ve had, period.
Top-notch service, impeccable dishes, and an unforgettable atmosphere where we sat by the fireplace… this place has it all. If you’re anywhere near Lake Tahoe, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. You’ll be talking about it long after your meal ends!
We had the beef stroganoff with spaetzel, roasted pork shank with sauerkraut and cabbage and our girls had spaghetti with meat sauce and a meatball.
We are going to tell everyone we know and will be coming to Taste of Tahoe every time we come to Tahoe. You truly can’t miss the food, the people and the experience! Hands down, my favorite in Tahoe (and I’ve been coming here multiple times a year for decades).
The jägerschnitzel (mushroom cream sauce on schnitzel) was to die for. The red cabbage was some of the best I’ve ever had. The spätzle was different than we expected, but was REALLY good (might be a Czech version as the owners are from Czech Republic). The goulash was super tasty and we were happy to see that on the menu. Beer and gluhwein went perfectly with the meal. After we didn’t think we could eat any more, our server (the wife of the couple that owns it) told us she made it fresh that day. I couldn’t turn it down and I’m glad I didn’t because it was incredible.
The service was great and the husband and wife that own it came around to check on us and to see how everything was. They were very sweet and friendly and we enjoyed our brief chat with them.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! We will be back in the future for sure! Thank you!!
The atmosphere is charmingly old-world, as if time slowed down here. Lenka, our server, was as authentic as the place itself. Tall, poised, and gracious, she embodied everything you’d expect from classic Eastern European hospitality. Warm, attentive, and just a touch reserved – the way you’d want it to be in such a setting.
The menu takes you on a journey through some real comfort food with a choice of noodles, gnocchi, or – and this was a first for me – Spaetzles. Yes, Spaetzles. And let me tell you, it was worth every bite. Rich, chewy, and just the right level of indulgence that pairs perfectly with hearty European dishes.
The salad bar isn’t the biggest, but the quality more than makes up for it. Fresh greens, crisp vegetables, and a thousand island dressing that immediately transported me back to childhood – it reminded me of something my Romanian/Italian grandmother used to make. It was creamy, rich, and just a little tangy, the kind of flavor that lingers in your memory long after the meal is over.
Now, the chicken paprikash. Let me tell you, I’ve had my fair share of paprikash across the globe, but this one – served over traditional spaetzle – was exceptional. Tender chicken, coated in a rich, paprika-laden sauce that clung to every bite of spaetzle. Comfort food at its finest.
Then there was the beef stroganoff, a dish I’ve always loved for its depth of flavor. Here, it was elevated by being served over gnocchi. The gnocchi added a new level of richness and paired beautifully with the beef, which had a surprising hint of blue cheese that added complexity to the dish. It was one of those flavors you don’t expect, but when it hits, you realize it’s exactly what the dish needed.
And the beer – oh, the beer. I opted for the Slovakian Primator Premium Lager. Light, zesty, and so drinkable that it was hard not to order another. It was the perfect complement to the heavier dishes, keeping everything balanced.
*The Taste of Tahoe* is a place where you come to slow down, enjoy a meal that feels like home, and immerse yourself in the rich flavors of Eastern Europe. It’s not just the food that’s memorable, but the entire experience. If you’re ever nearby, it’s worth every penny – and every bite.
2 thumbs up, a round of applause, & a standing ovation!
I grew up in the Polish community in Ohio, and European food is something that, when done right, brings you right back home ( wherever that may be)!
I had the BEST Stroganoff that I’ve had in YEARS! My partner had the Szegedin Goulash special, and it was so DELISH!
The waitress was as sweet as can be, & the owners even kept checking on us! You can really tell they take great pride in what they do. ( Mama’s recipes!)
The seating area has a salad bar, where everything was super fresh and crisp! I loved that the plates were kept in a chiller!
I literally will end up driving to South Lake Tahoe, just to come to this restaurant.
