Rebecca is doing something unique with Blue Crab in Denver NC. She is making true “lump crab cakes.” Light breading and seasonings letting one truly enjoy real crab meat.

The menu offers three sizes of crab cake. 2, 4,and 8 ounce portions. Eight ounces is a decent meal. Dive in and try a crabby patty. : ) your tummy will thank you!

There are a couple of soups available. Rebecca provided samples of each. I enjoyed the cream crab soup.

The location is right next to Dunkin’
Donuts. It shares a space with a private chef who also offers specialty burgers. Kinda 3 businesses in one location.

Keep trying new things!

First and foremost the food was pretty good, but the rest of the story.

This experience seems incomplete in a number of ways. First we didn’t expect there to be no place to eat, there’s room to add a few tables and we would highly recommend doing so. I read many reviews and atmosphere is consistently given 5 stars however this place has zero atmosphere unless your looking for a weird office vibe where you really do not even know which desk to order what from. The lobby area isn’t really clean featuring multiple bug traps and dirty corners as well as unused signage and a feel that just doesn’t work.
Now the food, the food was overall pretty dang good; again feeling somewhat incomplete though. We ordered a medium crab cake (delicious) but seems pricey at $22, a crab dip and Cream Crab soup. The crab dip was just that dip with nothing to dip in it exactly how we were to eat it was a little puzzling. We originally thought the crackers that were in the bag but pretty sure those went with the soup. The dip is also very heavy in mayonnaise which is the most forward flavor; but still pretty good.
Lastly the soup, the soup was good, but seems to be missing something, hard to pin exactly what it is but it lacks body and is very thin for a cream soup and fairly bland truthfully.
Overall, I may be generous with 4 stars because we had very high hopes and this place just misses that expectation. You are paying premium prices for premium food and the entire package just doesn’t match.

One last thing that didn’t affect us, the hours on the door do not match the hours posted on Google, not really sure which is correct.

OMG!! This place is legit! We moved from the Md area last year and when we heard about Poppy’s we had to give it a try. We are so glad we did because their food is amazing. We ordered the MD crab soup, crab cakes and crab dip! Rebecca did not disappoint. My FIL (born and bred in MD) couldn’t stop raving about the soup. The crab cakes were full of lump crab meat, not filler and the crab dip was decadent. So glad we found you and that you are so close. You have found yourself a repeat customer

This is a TRUE Maryland crab cake! As a Maryland native, living in NC now, I can assure you this is the real deal! The crab cake was jumbo lump, cooked perfectly and very tasty! My husband and I got the Sunday special which included a crab cake, a cup of soup, a bag of chips, and homemade banana bread. We took our meals to a local brewery to watch the Ravens game! Well worth our hour drive..we will be back! ❤️

We just tried Poppy’s for the first time tonight. Hands down one of my favorite places in Denver or the surrounding area! The folks running the show were extremely hospitable and very helpful—I’d go back for the friendly service alone.
I wound up trying a large crab cake and my wife had the cream-style crab soup. Both items were fantastic and seasoned perfectly. The temperature was right on point, which is important since they are takeout-only (though there is a picnic table out front). All in all, Poppy’s is a superb seafood spot. If you’re a blue crab fan, this is a must-try. Many thanks to the crew at Poppy’s for their hospitality and a delicious dinner!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Denver Gem! Absolutely Outstanding Maryland-Style Crab Cakes

I recently ordered 20 crab cakes from Poppy’s for a wine and cheese party, and they were a show-stopping hit. As someone who lived in Maryland, I can honestly say these are the real deal—packed with lump crab meat, beautifully seasoned, and blissfully free of the heavy breading and fillers you find elsewhere. We ordered a mix of regular and gluten-free, and both were equally exceptional.

I also had a chance to meet the owner, Rebecca, and she was an absolute delight—warm, accommodating, and clearly passionate about bringing authentic quality to Denver, NC.

Poppy’s is a fantastic new addition to the community, and I highly recommend supporting this local business. Whether you’re craving true Maryland-style crab soup or crab cakes or hosting guests, this is a place you don’t want to miss!

My wife and I have shared meals all over the South and we get disappointed more than impressed. That may be because we raise or grow 90% of our food and cook at home. We had friends that kept telling us to try this place so we decided today was a good day to go try it. We ordered a large crab cake, crab Mac and cheese, crab soup, and a cheese burger. I give this place a 10! The crab cakes have almost no filling just enough to hold all that delicious crab meat together. If you have had crab cakes around NC you haven’t seen anything like this. All of the dishes were full of crab meat!! The cheeseburger was amazing but the crab dishes are in a class by themselves!’

I ordered three medium crab cakes and some soup. I heated the crab cakes on my grill. The crab cakes were awesome mostly filled with lump crab meat. The soup was flavorful and also had a lot of crab meat. I highly recommend you try Poppy’s

Best crabcakes in Charlotte area & made of large lump crabmeat with just enough filler to hold together. We lived in Maryland & hers is as good if not better!! Take out only & you can get cooked or cook yourself. We’ve tried other sides & all are outstanding. Highly recommend!!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Poppy’s is a true small-town gem. The white crab soup is the best I’ve ever had, rich and full of fresh crab. Coming from Florida, that really matters. The crab cakes are huge and delicious, and the crab dip is excellent. This made for the perfect date-night takeout to enjoy at home. The staff is super friendly and clearly community-oriented. We will definitely be back.
