Taste of China may well be the best Chinese restaurant in Connecticut… and it’s absolutely one of the shoreline’s standout spots.

Start at the bar. The Kentucky Mule is a house favorite for good reason: Four Roses bourbon paired with quality ginger beer, balanced and refreshing, and consistently well made. It’s the kind of cocktail you order once and then never stop ordering.

The real star, though, might be hiding on the appetizer menu. The boneless spare ribs are exceptional — thin-cut, tender, juicy, and remarkably well-balanced. They avoid the usual pitfall of cheap, sticky red sauce, instead delivering deep, savory flavor that feels carefully simmered rather than drowned. Served with duck sauce and a punchy hot horseradish mustard, they’re easily the best boneless ribs I’ve had anywhere.

Service elevates the experience even further. Mike behind the bar is friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The regulars add to the warmth. And main man Jonathan’s handshake and greeting make it feel less like a restaurant and more like a neighborhood institution.

Consistently excellent food, a thoughtful bar program, and an atmosphere that invites you to linger—Taste of China is a place you’ll want to return to again and again. Highly recommended.

Christmas dinner/lunch take out. A bit disappointed because the food all seemed a bit bland. We had hoped the General Taos and sesame chicken would be crispy but it was not.
Wonton soup was good!

Literally asked if there fried rice had peas, he said we won’t add them. Asked twice to clarify. Picking out peas as im trying to eat this. Zero flavor, im not picky but this sucks, and you didnt give my spring roll either. Horrible

Interior was good and clean. Service was… Slow and bad. Ordered a few things on the menu such as Chicken with cucumber. When we got our dish, they put celery in it instead of cucumber! They didn’t even notify us that they didn’t have cucumber in stock and decided to make that order anyways! We ask why they still made it for us, and their response was nothing, not even an apology. The food was also extra salty. Only thing I enjoyed there was the beef and tripe dish. Give this place a try, if you want to try something new. But I won’t be going back here.

Went here with my parents this evening, as they were curious about the place and it was a good choice.
The place has a nice atmosphere, the service is pretty fast and the servers attentive. The food was absolutely delicious, definitely would come again!

Food is inedible. Food poisoning waiting to happen. Moo shu chicken had almost no chicken, and the chicken that it did have was shriveled and gray. Egg roll was a rock hard piece of dough. Tiny portions. I’m shocked at what they’re charging for the food. I would suggest staying away. Our food is going straight to the trash.

I’m so happily surprised to find awesome dan dan mien and ma po tofu in Connecticut. I’ve never been to Chengdu, but having eaten a decent amount of Sichuan food in LA, SF, and NYC, Taste of China is legit. The drink menu is also exceptional—vesper martini, Belgian beer. Sitting at the bar and having Mike make a drink while you wait for takeout is a great move.
