Fantastic authentic food

Before visiting Laredo, I was told I had to try Taquitos Ravi at all costs. With only two hours left in the city, I had to choose: the Laredo City Museum or Ravi. I chose the tacos, leaving the museum for a future visit(!).

I came specifically for the intestine (tripas) tacos, a flavor I love from Turkey. Since beef and chicken are everywhere, I thought an intestine taco would be a memorable specialty. Unfortunately, they were out of both the intestine tacos and the BBQ ribs.

Despite that disappointment, the chicken, beef, and steak tacos were excellent—well-chopped, tender, and with a great charcoal flavor. Loved the salsas come with my meal, though the chips tasted old, like the ones you throw away at home when left outside of a bag? At any rate, at under $4 a taco, the meal (including rice and guacamole for an extra charge) was wonderful and worth the trip. The atmosphere is very “old-school Mexican.” The building looks 50 years old, from the floors to the walls, and I actually loved the shabby, mid-century vibe.

However, the experience was nearly ruined by a billing issue. When the waitress asked what tip I’d like to leave, I said the customary 20%. When the check came back, I noticed the tip was actually around 45%!! If I hadn’t asked for a printed receipt, I never would have known. They eventually refunded the overcharge in cash and wrote the correction on my receipt in pen.

I have huge respect for servers, but this felt unacceptable. The food is still 5 stars, though.

It’s been a while since I’ve had tacos this good. This place came highly recommended and it didn’t disappoint. The pictures don’t do it justice, but I will be returning!

Google says this is one of “top rated” restaurants in town, so I decided to patronize as I was in the mood for good, hole-in-the-wall Tex Mex.

Upon entering, we noticed the establishment was full of local families (replete with screaming children) so we took a seat under the television playing las noticias at a comfortable level.

Service was prompt, friendly and patient.

The menu was simple and effective.

The prices vs portions were excellent.

I really enjoyed eating here…

However

It IS rundown per the hole-in-the-wall aesthetic.

Parking is challenging.

This was a very small look to be family ran business. Service with a smile and amazing tasting food. My only disappointment was I didn’t get some tacos to go to eat later. I would recommend this spot to any one wanting some authentic Mexican food.

I was told by my taxi driver, and my customs agent that this was the best place to eat. They were not wrong. If you want authentic mexican food, go here.

Place is good but only one server on a busy day… meat seemed to be reheated instead of freshly made… fajita was burnt to a char and very small portion. Both mollejas and fajitas were overcooked and reheated. I had gone back to give it another chance but it seemed to have gotten worse.

We literally just finished eating our takeout from this restaurant and I will say it’s some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in a long time. The parillada I ordered was delicious. The al pastor was so authentic and good. I definitely recommend coming here. It is small and busy but the food is worth it.
