We’ve been coming here for years, but on our most recent visit, it seemed like the place might be under new ownership, the quality of the food wasn’t quite what it used to be. That said, the service was friendly, and the restaurant, including the bathroom, was impressively clean, which I really appreciated. I ordered the pastor tacos and menudo, both these plates were good.

Taqueria Zacatecas – A Local Favorite for Traditional Mexican Breakfasts

Tucked into a small business plaza in Moreno Valley, Taqueria Zacatecas is a go-to spot for those craving authentic Mexican food, especially breakfast. On Saturday mornings, the place is lively with families gathering for a leisurely meal, making it clear this taqueria has built a strong local following.

One of the most popular dishes here is the menudo, a rich and comforting soup that many guests swear by. While I didn’t order it this time, it was easy to see how many customers were enjoying it. Instead, I went for a trio of tacos—al pastor, carne asada, and carnitas. The carnitas were tender and flavorful, while the pastor and carne asada were perfectly seasoned and grilled to the right doneness. The tortillas, though a bit on the small side, come in the classic double-layer style, holding the meat well. The green salsa really stood out, adding a bright, spicy kick that tied everything together.

For breakfast lovers, the menu also features plenty of egg-based plates (huevos combos), making it a great option beyond tacos.

The restaurant itself is cozy and casual, decorated with fun and interesting touches—maps, paintings, plants, and even a pinball machine—giving it a unique character. While the prices are slightly higher than average, the quality, authenticity, and popularity among locals make it a worthwhile stop.

Final Thoughts
Whether you’re here for a hearty breakfast, a comforting bowl of menudo, or some classic tacos, Taqueria Zacatecas delivers traditional flavors with a neighborhood vibe. A solid choice if you’re in Moreno Valley and want a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine.

Recommended for families, locals, and taco enthusiasts alike.

I recommend. Food is authentic. I got the taco special – 3 tacos, rice, beans, and a drink $9. Lots of meat choices. Wednesday is 99 cent tacos.

Ordered menudo to go and it was actually good! Ordered Chilakiles and were good No complaints….

But when it was time to get my food after waiting 20 for it ($50 Worth of menudo) the owner only gave me a small bag of onion cilantro and half a lemon! (STINGY)

and the worst part about it she asked me if I wanted to buy tortillas like wow ot should be included not sold!

Food had a good taste only it was a little on the cold side. I ordered menudo that wasn’t very hot and no chili oil to go with it . The tortilla was homemade but not too hot either. Nice service though. They do close everyday at 2 P.M. kinda early for a restaurant.

Had Menudo here on Wednesday. It was delicious! With homemade corn tortillas! My grandson had 2 tacos and a burrito. He loved them. It was Taco Wednesday so they were 99 cents can’t beat that so I took a dozen mixed for dinner. People here are really nice. I was very impressed with their kindness toward an elderly gentleman who was having problems walking. The young lady came outside, moved a table to the sun and had him sit down. Now that’s impressive so I will definitely be coming back!

I used to like this place, now they raised their prices and the portions are smaller. We order 4 menudos to go no extra tortillas because they charge for them now, total came out to $70. The cups they use for the menudo is now smaller. Then to really kill the deal for me and write this review we had no hominy in the menudo. If you raise your prices and give less I don’t think it will help your business. I’m definitely not going back.
