Super low key spot off the pop 105 bus route and US 421. Doesn’t show off. The food is served on paper plates because they know they don’t need to be impressing anyone. Not busy at all. Fast service, cheap, the food is as good as the Mexican food I had out west, which is pretty rare for NC, especially WNC. I’m surprised it took me four years to check this place out but I’ll definitely be back. The tacos are so simple but so good.

Great little spot for Mexican food. This is probably some of the best Mexican food in Boone on a good day. Highly recommend any of the taco options along with the strawberries and cream dessert. Not the most aesthetic spot, but it adds to the charm in a way.

If you want good portions of authentic Mexican food in an unlikely spot, this is it. We had the quesabirria tacos which was an order of three. It is a roasted beef with cheese. It comes with an amazing consome. We also ordered the enchiladas Verde. There were four corn tortillas filled with shredded chicken, covered with lettuce, a Mexican crumble cheese, and cream. It’s then smothered in a slightly spicy green salsa made from tomatillas. We ordered a side of rice and a pineapple aqua fresco for a drink.

Had the Tacos de Birria… my eyes shone with the glory of the beef. The dip was incredible. The meat was perfect. I have truly seen what it means to have 3 perfect tacos. You must go. Do not delay. It was like 13 bucks too like what even are you doing not going.

So so yummy!! It was so good we had to go back the next day before we left town. There’s an unlimited salsa bar with delicious options and extra vegetables. Prices were decent for the portions. The chicken tamale was good as well. Definitely support this small business, you won’t regret!

I can honestly say that Taqueria La Monarca is one of the best taco spots I have been to in a long time. On my visit, I ordered a birria taco while my friends went for burritos. The moment our food arrived, the incredible aroma filled the air… it smelled so good that I didn’t even get a chance to snap a picture before we all dug in. (The photo I’m sharing is of our empty plates, which says it all.)

Tacos came out super fast, the side of beans and rice were only $3 but huge. Their large horchata was enormous. Their hot sauces from their toppings bar were all fantastic and spicy!

Awesome desserts, tacos and gordita’s. I want to try other menu items, but I can’t stop ordering tacos. Small place and not much seating. It’s best to plan on ordering to go and grab a table if becomes free. Love the salsa bar.
