Terrific ambiance and nice staff member. However, the ground beef lacks flavor and a little too greasy. Meanwhile, the bistec was also quite tough to chew on. Everything else, the sauces and toppings, were decent.
When in the area, I could come back to try other options, since they have some interesting dishes.

El Cheltepin is a welcome addition to the New Rochelle dining scene! Newly opened but already making a strong impression, this clean and colorful spot delivers a truly satisfying experience—especially for those craving authentic chivo (goat) dishes.
I had the chivo consomé, barbacoa, and taco—each one tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. These specialties are only available on Fridays and weekends, which makes them feel like a well-kept secret worth waiting for.
The restaurant itself is bright and festive, with fun Mexican décor elements, upbeat music, and great air conditioning (always a plus on hot days). The staff were warm and friendly, adding to the overall experience.

My coworker raves about this place.
She told me I need to get the Birria Tacos. I found myself across the street and made it a point to drop in and order the 3 Birria taco plate and I’m glad I did.
Next time I would order the 5 mini tacos because let me tell you the tacos are PACKED with deliciousness. I was able to eat 1.5 my son ate the other 1/2 and I had 1 left over for lunch the next day. If it’s even possible it was better the next day as the flavors sat and melded together. Besides the food being the highlight the workers are awesome. My son asked for a cold drink but he pointed to one in the window. She asked if he ever had it because it was hibiscus and what she did next made my mama heart sing. She pulled out a mini sample cup and he settled on Passion Fruit. I 100% plan to be back and have my eye on the Taco plater for a future board meeting .

I ordered a chicken burrito and was a bit disappointed! There was too much rice in comparison to the meat and everything that comes with the burrito. There were a few chicken chunks, did not taste any beans and occasionally I would got hints of the guac. I will say, the rice was very good however it was very hard to eat it without chocking since it felt dry. I hope to come back but hope for a better experience.

A few days ago I saw a video on TikTok recommending this place. The dish I received was completely different from what I saw in the video, starting with the portion size and then the lack of ingredients. The price was excessive for what I received. I do not recommend it.

I would like to start by saying that I discovered your restaurant about a month ago. My husband and I decided to give it a try, and we were pleasantly surprised by the food—we especially enjoyed the Shrimp Baja Tacos.
Encouraged by that first visit, I returned a second time with a co-worker and ordered the same dish. Unfortunately, that experience was not as positive. It took over 40 minutes to receive our food, and although I had also ordered a side of rice and beans, that took even longer to arrive. As we were on our lunch break, my co-worker had to take her meal to go, while I had to rush through mine. We informed our waitress of the situation—she did apologize for the delay, but no further effort was made to make up for the inconvenience.
Today, I decided to give the restaurant one more try, but unfortunately, this visit confirmed that it will be my last. I called 30 minutes ahead to let the staff know I’d be coming for lunch and to see if that would help avoid a long wait. While the food was ready upon our arrival, it was served in to-go containers, even though we were dining in. The quality of the food was also disappointing—my shrimp had not been cleaned properly before cooking, which affected the overall experience. I brought this to the server’s attention, and while he apologized, there was no offer to replace the dish or provide an alternative.
Considering the prices, I expected more attention to detail and better customer service. It’s unfortunate, because I had high hopes after my first visit. I’m sharing this feedback in the hope that it helps improve the experience for future diners.
Update: decided to give it one more chance. My friend and I ordered the Baja tacos again and this time we got 3 tacos with a single shrimp each. We told the server , she said next time we would get 3 shrimps! I called the restaurant in the Bronx and spoke to Mayra, one of the owners wife. She apologized and said the New Rochelle owner would be calling me but that never happened. So no more for me. Only the first time was a hit.

I had a nice family afternoon in Chiltepin Restaurant the place is very nice and an excellent service and the best mexican food i ever try .the birria and the goat barbecue is the best they have 10/10 very delicious the flavor makes u feel like in mexico I really recommend this place.

I found out about this place because a friend invited me to dinner and I noticed they had corn in a cup and corn on the cob, so I ordered a cemita de carnitas, by the way the meat was very dry and overcooked, the sauces don’t go with that type of food, or unless it’s food made the Guatemalan way, anyway the next day I came back wanting to try the ESQUITES, the cup was super small and the contents were almost half full and very expensive for the size, they are not worth it and I would not recommend them since gastronomy requires presentation and consistency. And I don’t give it a star

Recommended by a friend, took my family here to eat and let me tell you, the food was Amazing!!!, we ordered traditional Gorditas with Chicharron, we tried their Quesadillas with their Homemade Tortillas, overall the food with the atmosphere there, the vibrant colors and decorations, the restaurant just looks beautiful, my experience there with my family was phenomenal, Amazing and friendly staff too. We will be back!!!!
