The place was completely empty, and now I know why…. Waste of $13.
The place is clean, inviting, and easy to get to. The staff was lovely and so friendly. I’ll be back next time I’m in Las Cruces!
As a restaurant it’s bad. It’s a friendly place that gives a good family feeling. But that’s not translated to the food.
Quasdilla had fat, it was stringy as if it wasn’t cut properly, or sorted.
The birria tacos were soggy and extremely stuck together. Picture enchiladas with birria sticking out from both ends.
No crunch. And consume was so watered down, you can tell they were trying to make it last or get more out of the broth without having to make more.
The El pastor was porkchop texture. Too thick and not thin like all pastor would normally be. They also had 1 inch long onions in the tacos. They weren’t finely chopped.
We had days burgers and burger nook close down that were actually good places to eat. It this place cant capture that food truck spirit again, I don’t see it staying open past 15 years.
As a Hispanic person I enjoyed eating here. I don’t think mateos is a Mexican restaurant. It’s very del taco like authenticity. Taqueria Chavez had that magic food truck touch and I would go to this food truck almost every other week. It was that good. All the details of a taco were on point. Im rooting for it to succeed, but I hope this review helps them and the guests planning to eat here.
Update, got tacos again this time one with shrimp, one asada, and one with al pastor. Shrimp was best, asada second, al pastor was dry and chewy. Beans were ok.
Went back and got the Quesabirria tacos with consome, ridiculously delicious!
