El Prieto is a great addition to the Chelsea food scene. The tacos and burritos taste super fresh and the salsa bar is a huge plus because you can customize everything to your spice level. Service was quick, prices are fair for NYC, and the overall vibe feels like a real West Coast taqueria. Definitely coming back.

The day I came was very packed, and there was only 1 cashier to attend a line of customers. Seemed pretty unfair considering it’s a small space.
Carne asada tacos: was alright, it’s good but nothing spectacular. It just tasted pretty regular.
I really like their topping bar and you can add whatever sauce.
Horchata: was a little watered down but surprisingly sweet? It’s ok but I’ve had better.

This was hands down some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in nyc. Better than Los tacos no1. The salsas are incredible. The quesadilla was unreal. So good. Would go out of my way to come here in the future.

Numero uno taqueria in the city! So, so good! Both food and staff are great. The asada tacos are so flavorful and packed with everything. And you can add anything from the salsa bar to your order. This is an authentic Mexican place in the city and where you should go to satisfy your cravings.

This Mexican spot SLAPS!!

From the first bite, I felt like I was transported to Mexico. This tastes so authentic!

They had an open salsa bar where you can refill your own sauces, beans, and pickled veggies in aluminum takeaway boxes.

I ordered the chicken burrito, I could probably eat two of them it was so delicious.

Absolutely amazing.

Amazing tacos! Super authentic flavors, fresh tortillas, and really friendly service. The birria and al pastor were my favorites. One of the best taquerias in NYC for sure. Highly recommend!

This is arguably the best restaurant in the neighborhood! I work around the corner and come nearly every other day. Everything is delicious. My favorite is the chicken tacos. There are also great vegetarian options – mushroom tacos and nopales (cactus) tacos!

Beyond the food, I have to highlight Carina who you order from. She’s so sweet & genuinely just a bundle of joy. Me & my friends love it here & love her!!

It’s hard to find a place that competes with the standard that Los Tacos No. 1 has set. Though, this spot does a lot of things really well. The vibe, menu, and flavors are all on point and the staff is very accommodating. All the food comes out fresh and the tortillas taste hand-made. The highlight is the self-serve salsa bar with complimentary pinto beans. Portions are on the smaller side given the steeper prices. For almost the same price, my steak taco fix goes to the OG, but if you want to avoid long lines and get more menu variety, this is a solid stop in NYC. Below is a breakdown of what I ordered, along with my thoughts. Asterisks (*) indicate items I especially enjoyed and would recommend ordering again.

*Chicken Burrito ($14.50) – Straight up just meat, guac, cilantro & onions wrapped in a flour tortilla. I appreciate this style without all the extra rice and beans.

Steak Taco ($5.89) – Flavors are all here but the steak is a bit chewy. Perhaps more marinade time could help tenderize it. I would give it one more chance considering how good everything else is.

*Cucumber, Lime & Chia Agua Fresca (Comp.) – Super refreshing and not overloaded with sugar. This is perfect for a hot summer day.

Hibiscus Agua Fresca (Comp.) – This has all the complex spices and notes that you would expect. A bit on the sweeter side compared to the others, but very well-balanced.

This food is DELICIOUS. The food presents accurate to the pictures. I had the adobada burrito and it was mildly spicy but so flavorful and filling. Prices are reasonable. And the lady working the register was so kind in recommending something when it was my first time there and unfamiliar with the menu. The music playing in the background is fire too. 10/10; this place be the first restaurant I visit when I’m back in NYC.

I’m totally not understanding the high rating. I came here because it has 4.9 stars, but I thought it was the worst Mexican food I’ve had in the area. Very strange.
