The place was spotless, which is a big deal for me, especially since I have kids. Even the bathroom was clean, which you don’t always find at restaurants. Everything about this spot felt welcoming and well cared for.
I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for real, authentic Mexican food. My kids loved it too we’ll definitely be coming back!
I placed a to-go order and was halfway through when the phone rang. The cashier asked me to hold, then took the phone order and put it ahead of mine. That should’ve been my cue to leave, but I stayed quiet.
I ordered two plates and an order of flautas. When I went to pay, I was charged an extra fee for using a card, with no sign posted or notice given up front. Again, I let it slide.
I was given three salsa cups and went to the salsa bar, which looked good. Realizing I’d need more, I politely asked for two additional cups after waiting for another customer to finish ordering. I was told they charge for more than three cups, though they eventually agreed to give me one more after checking my order. Honestly, at $20 per plate and $10 for three flautas, you’d expect more than a single cup of salsa per item.
Then came the wait. The phone order (taken before mine) got their food first, followed by customers who ordered after me. When my order finally came, I took it home only to find more disappointment:
The flautas were soggy on the bottom, crispy only on the ends.
My wife’s Chile Verde was bland and a small portion for the price.
My Asada plate had two large pieces of meat, but both were extremely dry.
Overall, not a good experience. I won’t be back. If you’re craving Mexican food, there are better options nearby: Taqueria Sonora downtown, Taco Shop El Rey in East Sonora, or for a similar price point, Cocina Michoacana in the plaza.
Ooh and the salsa bar…. SLAPS chefs kiss
