This was our first time to eat at the Tapoco Tavern. It was actually our first time to be in this area. It was a very beautiful setting, in the mountains, next to a river. We were seated on the patio overlooking the river. Because this restaurant is close to the Tail of the Dragon, you could also car or motorcycle watch, from the patio.

My husband had fried trout with coleslaw and I had a pulled pork sandwich with homemade chips. My husband enjoyed the trout, it had good flavors and a nice cornmeal coating. I liked the pulled pork sandwich very good smoked flavor. We both enjoyed the food and the experience.

We got there about 11:00 am for lunch, which was a great time. We ate outside on the patio overlooking a river and a road. We both enjoyed watching the cars and motorcycles pass by. At times it could be noisy, but it was fine. We didn’t mind the noise from the cars and motorcycles. The restaurant filled up fast while we were eating. When we left, the parking lot was almost full and it was like a car and motorcycle show of amazing cars and motorcycles, some of which included Corvettes , Mustangs, Mercedes, BMWs, Porsches, and even a McLaren!

We drove here for lunch. Our first time eating here. They was short staffed, but they was still amazing. We had intentions of getting something besides pizza, but smelling it we had to get pizza. It was sooo good! We also got the chips, appetizers! The view was great as well. We will

This place, was a hidden gem! Was cruising along the back rounds, tiptoeing between the TN/NC state lines, and had food and brews on the mind. Thank goodness we came across this lovely little tavern! Wonderful food, great drinks, and absolutely wonderful environment! Would highly recommend to others!

This lovely and picturesque tavern is conveniently situated near US 129, with a river flowing alongside a spacious deck that features numerous dining tables overlooking the water. They provide a diverse menu, ranging from burgers and pizza to steaks and fish, making it an ideal choice to please everyone. The staff is known for their friendliness and excellent service. The food is both delicious and fresh. I highly recommend the Slick Rock Pizza. I certainly plan to return to sample their other menu items.

You don’t really come here for the food. Its pretty good. The rooms range from sparce to fancy. Covered motorcycle spaces are available. All nice and probably the best in the area. BUT the atmosphere here … it’s like a mountain paradise hidden away from life! Hiking, trails, babbling brook… and the Tail… it is absolutely gorgeous here. WOW!

Wow, just a spectacular place in an incredible location. Take a run thru the Tail of the Dragon and stop for lunch or dinner. The food and service were wonderful, but the setting is what’s happening here !!!! There are trails you can access, areas to sit near the water and a beautiful collection of cars and motorcycles in the parking lot. You can’t go wrong at this restaurant.

Amazing. I was here for lunch on Oct 4th Saturday and looks like there was some racing event in the area. Parking was packed with expensive cars. Saw many Corvettes, Audis and BMWs (mostly modified for high performance). A beautiful weather and an amazing place. A lot of seats in covered patio and a lot of seats in the open patio with breathtaking views of the river flowing right by it. Food was ok and they had good variety of beers. We liked the hazy and Mango Cart on the Tap. Download offline maps before you start as both AT&T and Verizon had no connection in the area. Only after we reached the Tapoco Restaurant we got access to their WiFi.

Beautiful historic lodge in an incredible setting.Tables on the deck overlook a gorgeous rocky stream. It is very dreamlike .
Staff are friendly and helpful Very professional and helpful .Our vegan guests had plenty to enjoy. The quinoa bowl is a riot of color and flavors .Filling!
They made us a vegan pizza and it was delicious.Cooked properly so the crust does not sag.Crispy and just right
The unsweetened Iced Tea and Mocktails are top knotch. Feels like a fancy resort without the fancy prices .
We live 45 minutes away in East TN and always bring guests here. They cannot stop talking about Tapoco Lodge .
We are retired chefs and restaurant owners and appreciate perfection.

Excellent experience. Customer service at the bar was excellent. She kept my drink filled up and was always checking with her customers to see if they needed anything. Beautiful view of the river nearby. Loved their meaty pizza and sweet tea.

We had a truly memorable lunch at Tapoco Tavern, nestled right by the riverside—a perfect backdrop of rushing water that added a calming touch to the entire experience. The atmosphere is rustic and inviting, making it a great stop whether you’re passing through or spending the day exploring the area.

If you’re a cheese lover, don’t miss their brick oven pizza—it’s generously loaded with melted cheese. Just a heads-up: you might want to ask for a lighter amount if you prefer something a bit less rich. They also offer a gluten-free cauliflower crust option, which is a thoughtful touch for those with dietary preferences.

My personal favorite? The Tavern Tacos with trout—absolutely delicious, especially when paired with their crispy fried okra. It’s a unique Southern twist that really works.

Another great perk: if you’re driving an electric vehicle, you can charge up near the tennis court beside the Tin Can Theater while you eat or explore.

We took advantage of the wait time to hike to Bear Creek Falls, just a short drive away. The trail is a manageable 2.5-mile loop with a highlight about halfway in—an icy, crystal-clear spot above the falls perfect for a quick dip. It was both refreshing and rewarding, capping off a wonderful afternoon.

Highly recommend Tapoco Tavern not just for the food, but for the whole experience!
