We came here around 7:30pm on a Sunday in December, and sat outside under the headlamps on the covered sidewalk. I was warm enough o remove my jacket. We were waited on promptly, and opted for the absolutely amazing French onion soup— this is a must. And I mention it first because it was our favorite. We both ordered the $20 burgers, a steal of a deal; it will fill you up! She got the salmon burger with side salad (which was huge), and I got the beef burger with the $3 cheese add on and fries. Both can on ciabatta rolls. I like that the burger came with a side of greens and caramelized onions to put on it if you like. I asked for a side of mustard, and that was tasty on the burger. The aioli is strong on the garlic, so if you enjoy that taste you’ll love a side of that to dip your fries in. All in all an enjoyable dinner. Not my favorite burger but pretty darn good! Love the small crispy fries. Ambiance is cozy.

I stopped by on my trip to SF and it did not disappoint! My server Roberto provided excellent customer service. I tried the escargot, mussels in white wine, potatoes au gratin, affagato, white wine and chocolate cake. Everything was so flavorful and you can really taste the fresh quality ingredients. This place also has a great view of the city.

Came here and had a wonderful time. Staff is super warm and welcoming.

Started with the French onion soup which was great, I love the textures between the crisp bread and crispy, stretchy cheese.

I got the roast chicken which was delicious, crispy skin and pretty moist. I think the breast part was slightly dry on the inside but the leg was super juicy and tender. The sauce on the chicken was really incredible. The chicken plate is definitely a lot of food for one person.

Will definitely be back for this neighborhood staple!

Be prepared for a wait—there’s often a long line, but it’s absolutely worth it. The food was fantastic overall. The escargot is a must-try: rich, garlicky, and perfectly cooked. The sole was incredibly tender and flavorful—definitely a highlight. The French onion soup, while comforting, was a bit too salty for my taste. I also tried the crepe, which had a great texture and was well-executed, though slightly salty as well. Despite that, everything was delicious and full of character. Would return!

Chez Maman East is a small space filed with Potrero regulars who dine here multiple times a week. The French onion soup is the dish most people talk about, with a cheese cap that melts into long, stringy pulls that stay intact all the way to the last spoonful. The rest of the menu runs through the usual bistro plates, and the bar seats give you the best view and the quickest service.

The baked chicken was very good.

The crème brûlée is a little big so definitely share it. Salted caramel ice cream is good as well.

Love this neighborhood Gem, Chez Maman East along with its sister restaurant Chez Maman West in Hayes Valley. I usually get a burger or roast chicken but opted for their Nicoise Salad. A generous bowl Filled with fresh crisp greens, green beans,, tomatoes, potatoes, eggs and topped with 3 slabs of ahi tuna. A light vinaigrette along with an olive tapenade ties the salad together. Solid! We finished with dessert, Pain Perdu is like a cross between bread pudding and French toast, and apple tart., warm, flaky covered with ice cream. Service was friendly and efficient. We were there early since we were going to the Valkyrie’s game, an easy walk DOWN to Chase Center, we avoided the crowd that started filling the place as we were leaving. This is French comfort food, in a cute setting. It gets crowed and noisy which adds to the ambience!

I’ve been to Chez Maman many times and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Yesterday evening was no different. I had a perfectly cooked and wonderful pork chop in the most amazing sauce. I ate so much bread just to get as much as possible. Highly recommend for anytime but protip is to go for lunch and avoid the dinner crowd!

Walk in around 6:00. Everything is perfect.

The French onion soup, snails with baguette as the appetizer, followed by the duck legs with truffle fries, ended with white peach sorbet and apple tart. I’m satisfied here.

Lunch of steak and frites. The steak was good, lots of good flavor. Peppercorn sauce was on the watery side, should’ve been thicker. The aioli had slight taste of garlic. French fries were subpar, they didn’t taste fresh. Ice tea was good. Service was excellent. If I went back I would get a burger and a salad, skip the fries. The atmosphere is very nice. Definitely worth a try for lunch.
