This was our third time doing the lunch omakase here with Chef Max, and once again, it was amazing. He’s always so friendly and funny, which makes the whole experience even better. Apologies for the not-so-great photos I took this time — I’ll definitely try to take better ones of you next time, Chef Every single piece of sushi was FABULOUS. For the winter seasonal menu, we had buri, and it was honestly SO good. Just typing this makes me hungry again.
We basically feasted on high-quality sushi within an hour, and it was absolutely worth it. We also tried the Joto Daiginjo sake and the YoHo “Umami” IPA — both were delicious, and I’ll definitely be ordering them again on our next visit.
Every time we come here, we leave with a great experience. Highly recommended!

We had a fantastic Valentine’s Day dinner at Tamu! We made a reservation at the hand roll bar and were seated promptly. My wife is gluten free and they told us that all their soy sauce is tamari, so almost all the rolls were safe for her to eat! We didn’t see anything about allergens on the website, so I would recommend they add it there too!

We started with a Japanese rice lager and the tuna tartare with incredibly crispy rice chips. Then we tried many different hand rolls and enjoyed them all, especially the salmon skin. The service was decent, they were pretty busy for Valentine’s Day but our water glasses were kept full.

Overall a fabulous meal, and we will definitely be back to try the omakase lunch or dinner.

The best omakase experience start to finish. I wish I could adequately put into words how fun the vibe was, how amazing the food is, and how incredible Chef Max is. The precision and thought into every bite was impeccable. Chef Max made this night one of the funnest things we’ve ever done in Chicago. Two hours laughing with our new friend Max who showed us his heart through his food. 10/10 , do not hesitate to book, and don’t hesitate to share your Sake 🙂 Thank you Max!

My recent dinner at this upscale Japanese establishment was nothing short of spectacular. It is rare to find a place that captures the true essence of high-end Japanese dining so perfectly, but they have succeeded brilliantly here.
The absolute highlight was the impeccable quality of the raw fish. The sashimi was pristine—incredibly fresh, delicately sliced, and with that melt-in-your-mouth texture that signifies top-tier sourcing. The authentic flavors and masterful preparation were so convincing that for a moment, I felt completely transported back to a premier sushi counter in the heart of Tokyo. It was a nostalgic and deeply satisfying experience for the palate.
The drink menu is extensive and thoughtfully curated, offering a fantastic array of options ranging from rare, seasonal sakes to excellent wines. Finding the perfect pairing for our meal was effortless thanks to the diverse selection.
For anyone seeking a genuinely authentic, luxurious Japanese dining experience, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit.

I came here for the lunch omakase with my friend last year and I totally forgot to write a review! It was so tasty ! It was also quick so you won’t be here for more than an hour if you have a short lunch! I ordered hot tea but I can’t remember which one I chose but it def had a weird funky name and was very enjoyable. I would love to come back!

Max was our chef and he was incredible. Any question we had, he had an answer – and he kept us entertained the entire time. My wife and I went for a make up Valentine’s Day, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The whole experience felt elevated but still casual and comfortable. The food was outstanding, and the quality was truly unmatched. The sake that max recommended was a perfect pair and the cocktail I had was great. Highlights were the sea urchin, small and sweet; the hand roll with crab; and the Japanese snapper.

Pleasantly surprised with this place! Nice decoration inside and great food! Very fresh ingredients without price getting very high. Ordered the chef selection of hand rolls, all very, very good! Wasn’t expecting it to be this good, so we will be back for sure!

Tamu was a top tier temaki experience in Chicago! We visited on a beautiful Sunday evening and got seated at the bar super quick with our reservation. The menu was quite large for hand rolls, with a nice variety of options. Every roll we received was delicious, well made, and pretty quickly prepared. The non temaki options we got were also great. I highly recommend the taiyaki dessert as well – we’d come back just for that! 5/5 for sure.

Cocktails were the highlight of dinner, served very quickly and had unique, exciting, flavors that elevated the experience. Fish tasted high quality, but quantity was slightly less than expected. The hand roll chefs choice was tasty, but all the topping were chopped up. Some of this would be expected, but some larger pieces of fish would have elevated the experience.
