Born n raised in Southwest Detroit so this staple has been around forever. Fabulous that the quality, and flavor is still rocking it. Any of the tamales you get are out of this world. My favorite is the spicy pork,I got the pork this time still packed a ton of taste. The owner is funny and personable ,everyone is family kinda feel.

We saw a video about this place and we wanted to try the tamales. The place is in Mexican town Detroit, we tought you can eat there, but no… you only buy and go. We bought 6 tamales, red pork and beef. The tamales were delicious but small and tiny ☹️

I had tamales for the first time here. While they were freshly warm and tasty, the size of each one was too small. I also would’ve liked more of their spicy sauce.

I just picked up my niece and went here for both our first time. The owner was so friendly and gave my niece a wonderful welcoming home from the military. The tamale were so good and brought me back memories of my own grandmother’s when she was alive.

Detroit staple been coming for years and the last few years its just been declining. Walked i. For Christmas Eve Tamales and the entire lobby are smelled like cigarettes. They weren’t busy and the ladies were very kind. Paying $21 for a dozen felt like a rip off and the size of the tamales confirmed it. Tamales are filled 80% Masa and 20% Pork, they are so thin and oily that having them for Christmas Eve was kind of disappointing. I dont know if they are trying to save on costs or have a new kitchen staff, but between the cigartte smoke and small value of food…I don’t think Ill return next year.

This is another Southwest Detroit gem that I clearly waited too long to try. It’s located in the short distance between Corktown and Mexicantown on Vernor Hwy so there isn’t much else within walking distance. That said it’s absolutely worth a drive and stop as a stand-alone destination. The tamales come in four primary varieties (Pork, spicy pork, chicken, beef) of which we tried two. Both the chicken and pork were exceptional though the pork was marginally better. The most convenient way to purchase is by the dozen as a single tamale isn’t going to be enough – both due to the size and the flavor. The easiest way to order is the exterior window and remember to bring cash and wear a mask.
