Super expensive. Not worth it. $19 for a dozen tamales and salsa. They charge extra for salsa. Literally 98% corn and 2% chicken. I rather go to Evie’s tamales. Their tamales are full of chicken and they give you salsa for free and way cheaper.

They have a takeout window on the outside of the building I didn’t go inside, so I don’t know about the atmosphere tamales are kind of small with very little meat, and they seem pretty expensive, I think it’s like $17.50 for a dozen, but I guess that’s inflation right? LOL.. all in all, I give them 8 out of 10…

Familia. What a great place! Handmade (not machine made) tamales from a family business that embraces 4 generations of Susana’s family. This is not a restaurant and it is not a store, but a Tamaleria, a place for the making of tamales. The tamales you get here are slightly more expensive than the machine-made ones you get at other places, but they are still very inexpensive and super tasty. The people who work here (at least all the ones I met) were extremely nice (yes, even you Susie) and took care of my order and everything else. I think my favorite thing was that on the day I was there an all-female mariachi band was playing across the street!

This is another Southwest Detroit gem that I clearly waited too long to try. It’s located in the short distance between Corktown and Mexicantown on Vernor Hwy so there isn’t much else within walking distance. That said it’s absolutely worth a drive and stop as a stand-alone destination. The tamales come in four primary varieties (Pork, spicy pork, chicken, beef) of which we tried two. Both the chicken and pork were exceptional though the pork was marginally better. The most convenient way to purchase is by the dozen as a single tamale isn’t going to be enough – both due to the size and the flavor. The easiest way to order is the exterior window and remember to bring cash and wear a mask.

I should of read the reviews. I have been craving tamales. Super thin with no filling inside. They were also super wet and soggy. Not good at all. Do NOT go here.

This was a must stop before heading back to Florida! Ordered three dozen tamales. Sweet, pork, and jalapeño/cheese. So good! The masa used is perfectly moist and seasoned. Everything was delicious. Pricing is awesome too. Very friendly workers! Can’t wait to return!

The flavor of the Tamales it’s good, but the size it’s a joke, so disappointing they are sooo tiny, nothing compared with a real Mexican tamales

Satisfied my craving. Ordered a dozen and a half, wish there was more than 2 tablespoons of salsa to purchase. Will definitely be back!

The quality of their product has fallen off portion size very inconsistent, tastes old and dry ,they say you get what you pay for someone needs to let these people know that for what they charge, tamales should be delicious, sad this place was the king of tamales. Time to rebuild

I have moved from my loved neighborhood, but I don’t mind the drive to get these tamales! And the hot sauce, amazing! (If you like extra hot, you will love theirs. The mild is delicious too. And if you love to talk Detroit Tiger’s, she’s your girl. ❤
