We ordered:
Tom Yum Noodle Soup – our favorite! It was great mix of sour and spicy soup. It had chopped peanuts with every bite.
Pad Kee Mao with chicken – flavorful with wok hei; loved the fried basil topping, not too spicy
Seafood pineapple fried rice – seemed to be a lightly curry or turmeric flavored rice. Flavor wasn’t as strong in comparison to the first two.
One block away is one of the best Thai places in the city: TOPAZ. it’s slightly more expensive but the value is there.
As for TAM MAI:
The service was not good.
If the food wasn’t a total rip off then I would have been fine with that and i try not to take my issues out on the staff, but he did put my glass down with his fingers on the rim. Kind of a No no.
I went at 3 pm on a Wednesday and the service was slow and it took a while before he got my order. The table of four next to me got their meals one at a time and they were all just awkwardly waiting for the final guy to get before they could eat so I’m not sure what the issue was. As they got served I noticed their food and since I hadn’t even placed my order yet I was reconsidering but finally I was able to order a pad Thai tofu lunch special with spring roll. I saw the table next to me eating their spring rolls and salad free apps with the lunch special. All skimpy and cheap.
Finally My spring roll came. No dipping sauce. Bland flavorless and greasy. Fine I can let it slide, but of course not a good sign.
I should have gone with my gut and left before ordering because when I Eventually I get my pad Thai it’s just orange slop. Totally greasy tiny bowl of noodles with a couple cubes of tofu on top. I tasted a few bites of the noodles and a small bite of the tofu before calling the waiter over to tell him simply that this isn’t worth $15 to me and it’s very bad and I won’t be eating it. Please cancel the order. He was nice enough about it and offered me something else but I just left. I felt bad and I hope he doesn’t have to pay for it but it wasn’t gonna be me. Gross slimy greasy measly portion of pad Thai and it gave me diarrhea.
This restaurant is in a very high competition area and its costs are not competitive so they should try and make it up in the quality of the food. They don’t. It’s borderline criminal to offer this dish at $15.
Absolutely outrageous zero standards at this place. Go to topaz.
Every dish we ordered was delicious and well seasoned.
The flavors reminded me of food back in Thailand.
Nothing tasted watered down or adjusted too much.
The menu had a great variety of options.
Service was fast and very friendly.
The staff was happy to answer questions about the menu.
The restaurant was clean and comfortable.
Portions were generous for the price.
This will definitely be one of my go-to Thai spots.
